Chapter 2
The photos were filled with Ruben and Sofia’s faces.
Some showed them arm–in–arm, smiling at the camera, while others were taken in bed, suggestive and intimate.
ginted messages revealed their brazen conversations, each line dripping with flirtation and shamelessness.
Every piece flaunted theirss
and intimacy.
“Did you see it clearly?” Sofia asked, her tone leisurely and composed.
I clenched my fists, suppressing the nausea welling up inside, and looked up to ask, “Why are you showing me this?”
venomous
Sofia chuckled, then fixed me with a venomous smile.
“Because I can’t stand seeing you happy with him.”
I grabbed the glass of water beside me and poured it over her.
I don’t remember how I stumbled back home, dazed and hollow.
I curled up on the sofa, hugging myself, as the daylight outside faded into darkness.
The room was swallowed by shadow, leaving me alone with my thoughts, which were filled with Ruben’s face.
I remembered when he earned his first paycheck from a part–time job and bought me a lipstick, treating me to a fancy meal.
Under the night sky, he kissed me gently, shyly, and earnestly made a promise:
“Sabrina, I’ll only ever love you.”
But now, he had broken that promise.

Chapter 2
The sound of the door opening broke the silence, and in the next moment, the room Was
flooded with light.
“Why didn’t you turn on the lights?” Ruben’s voice washed over me.
He sat beside me, pulling me into his arms, resting his chin on my head, and speaking
softly.
“Darling, did you miss me?”
I couldn’t understand how Ruben, who was so loving and considerate, willing to give me both his time and money, could have cheated.
Watching him play the role of a perfect husband before me made my heart ache unbearably.
In that moment, I made a decision.
I would divorce him.
His love had changed–his eyes no longer held only me.
But now was not the time.
I wrapped my arms around his lean waist and murmured, “I missed you. Let’s go out for dinner, okay?”
Ruben’s kiss landed gently on my forehead.
“Okay.”
He took me to a restaurant and ordered all my favorite dishes.
But the more affectionate he acted, the more repulsed I felt.
When did Ruben become so skilled at pretending?
The boy who used to blush just saying “I like you” now hid his infidelity without a trace.
He served me food attentively, showing nothing but care.

But then, in the middle of our meal, Sofia appeared, smiling as the greeted us.
“Mr. Miller, what a coincidence to see you here”
The moment I saw her, I instinctively looked at Ruben.
For a split second, his face stiffened, a flicker of panic flashing through his eyes before he quickly composed himself,
his is Miss Sofia Walker, the daughter of my business partner, Mr. Walker. And this is my wife, Sabrina.”
Ruben introduced us with a polite smile.
Sofia was dressed to impress, her gaze toward me filled with challenge and provocation.
I avoided meeting her eyes, lowering my head slightly.
Ruben’s brow furrowed faintly.
“You two enjoy your meal; I won’t disturb you.”
Sofia gave me a smug smile before turning and leaving.
“Ruben, are you… close with Miss Walker?”
After much hesitation, I finally asked.
Lin
Ruben froze for a moment before replying almost instantly, “I’m not close to her. We’ve only met a few times for business discussions.”
I closed my eyes briefly.
“I see.”
Ruben reached out to stroke my hair, smiling gently.
“Don’t overthink it. Eat your food.”
But my heart sank to the bottom.

Chapter 2
Once, Ruben and I had promised each other that if either of us fell out of love, we would be honest and part peacefully,
When I was younger, my father’s infidelity had left my mother depressed, making me
despise betrayal.
Ruben had once gripped my hands tightly, his eyes slightly red.
“I will never betray you or lie to you.”
His shining eyes had convinced me that eternal love existed.
But in the end, it was all a delusion of my own making
Back home, Ruben went into his study to work.
Yet faintly, I could hear his suppressed, furious voice, as though gritting his teeth
“You purposely showed up at the restaurant. What were you trying to do?”
“Didn’t we agree not to let my wife find out?”
“You’d better not target her.”
“Fine, I’ll meet you.”
A moment later, Ruben came out, looking at me apologetically.
“Darling, there’s an issue with a project at work. I need to head out.”
I nodded faintly, hugging him as usual and seeing him off.
Left alone, I stared at the message on my phone, dazed.
“Do you believe me now? One call, and I can have him running to me.”
The tone was smug and arrogant.
Chapter 2
I sighed, lightly slapping my numb face,
Once, I wouldn’t have believed it.
Now, I did.
