Chapter 39
Thanks in the new deal I struck with Veronica, she has been careful withther movements around me and in general.
Who knew that all she needed was someone to remind her of her position and what she could lose if I decided not to continue the relationship?
Now that I had gotten her off my tail, I needed to see Ana. Since that day at the restaurant, I haven’t seen her and it bothered me a lot
She was pissed about what I said back there and I needed to know if she was in a better place now about the issue.
I just couldn’t hold back from patting Terry in his place when he acted like lie had rights over who the taw or interacted with
We were enjoying the night and when I was about to ask her out on a small date, Terry walked in with flowers and began to question everything
I tried to ignore him at first but I couldn’t when he got pissed. Lord knows how he even met Ana and how they became so close but I’ve never approved of him and I would never approve of him to be friends with anyone close to me, let alone Ana, whom I still had feelings for.
“I’m ready.” Veronica’s voice cut through my thoughts and I turned around to meet her summing appearance.
She looked…well, decent. But Ana looked way better.
“Okay, let’s go,” I said and led the way.
We were visiting Ana’s restaurant and my heartbeat accelerated with joy as I couldn’t wait to see her again.
To Veronica, it was a dare she had to pass to get her place back but to me, it was just another opportunity to see Ana again, with Veronica in check.
I touched my buttons for the umpteenth time. I had to look perfect and irresistible so her anger would be calmed first by my charm before I spoke
We got into the restaurant and took the table beside the window
I scanned around the restauram nervously to catch a glimpse of Ana but gave up after my efforts were futile.
Ana was nowhere to be seen.
1 squared my shoulders and tried to look relaxed
She would probably come out to attend to us while we’re here, I thought and let it be but our orders were brought by the waiters in the restaurant and even though they smiled broadly and had good customer service, I was pissed
My expression was cold and my forehead furrowed.
Veronica on the other hand seemed excited that she didn’t see her rival. I don’t know if she noticed my reaction but I had a good explanation for it even if she did
She dug into her food and gulped all the wine in her glass in one
Was she trying to embarrass me or was she just really happy that her rival wasn’t here?
Unable to hold it in anymore. I called on the waiter who served us and asked after An
He paused before saying “Oh, she went for the international food competition and the Native Square.” He walked away after informing me and I almost froze in shock.
Did Ana attend the food competitiont She was taking her cooking seriously and would go to any length to ensure that she was recognized for what she did.
The feelings I had for her skyrocketed
1 wanted her the more now, seeing that she was an ambitious never–giving–up womun.
I guess that was what made me love Veronica. She was a goal–getter and she even left the relationship to pursue her goals instead of me to move on. I held onto her and the thought of being with an ambitious woman made me want to get her back no matter the cost.
However, she returned a failure to me, currently jobless and has nothing to show for all the years she was away.
My wait was in vain but the deed was already done and Ana disappeared without a trace. I decided to live with my mistake but never stopped thinking about Ana

Suddenly, the returned, after some years. Changed and even better version of herself and I caught myself falling every time her name was
“Why are you not eating? Veronica asked between mouthfuls of steak
I shook my head but it was never enough to keep Veronica in one place.
“Are you thinking about her!” She asked again.
Hy her, I knew she was referring to Ana..
Not again! I groaned inwardly. Not outside for crying out loud.
“Yes, I am. She was
lie was supposed to be here. She’s part of the plan” I replied and she looked at me puzzled.
“How do you mean?“
“This deal is between you and her, not me and you. You were supposed to test your patience capacity with her in the same room. If she’s not here, how can we taste that?” Lasked and she looked at me thoughtfully.
She was slow to process things and it pisard me off.
“We’ll have to do this some other time. Let’s leave I ordered but she exchanged glances at the food and me but I didn’t want to spare any minute at the restaurant when I wasn’t going to see her. It was a waste of time.
“The food?” She tried to speak but I pulled her out
“Go to the house and wait for me. I won’t be long. I need to be somewhere now” I said and shut the car door.
y words.
Veronica didn’t protest but she looked really sad at my
Thooked a ride and headed for the Native Square where Ana was supposed to be competing.
The place was crowded and lots of supporters came along for their candidates and a ginormous screen was set up so everyone could watch what was going on from wherever they were
I tilted my body occasionally in avoid bumping into people or brunhing against them and my legs came to a halt when I heard Ana’s name.
“Let’s look at what contestant number three made and let the judges taste. The narrator announced and there was silence in the hall,
