Chapter 9
ISABEL’S POV
I didn’t know where to go at that point. I had only one place in mind. I let my legs lead me because, at that point, my brain wasn’t functioning.
They sent you out of the house? 1 knew your parents were up to no good, but not to the point of throwing you out of the house. You don’t deserve that, Isabel. Come on in, Grandma Shu remarked as she moved away from the door, letting me into her apartment.
“I don’t want you to cry about everything that has happened. You’re welcome to live with me until you decide to move in with the princes, she continued, and 1 shook my head.
“I don’t want to be with the Alpha princes. They’ve done nothing but bring me pain. Even though I don’t have a wolf and live with a curse upon my head, my parents didn’t deem it fit to throw me out until the issue of becoming the Luna came up.”
“They want me to hand over my position as the Luna to Evelyn or Amelia. In their words, they were better at representing the family, I explained, and her eyes softened as she looked at me.
princes
“Isabel, you can’t let what they said to you define who you are or the decisions you make. The are your chance at living again, and you know it, she uttered with concern.
That’s what I thought about Rafael and Josh… Should I start mentioning my mates before them? Even Caleb wanted me dead in the end.”
“How is that supposed to make me feel? Grandma Shu. I’m heartbroken. The betrayal from my own family has left a painful mark on my heart that may never heal, I confessed, and she sighed softly.
“Oh dear, I understand everything. Having been in your shoes before, I don’t even understand how I managed to live with the pain of betrayal from my mate,” she expressed, shaking her head in self–pity.
She began explaining her story. “He was human. The fact that I was mated to a man who wasn’t a werewolf was already enough of an insult.”
“The pack members took it upon themselves to ridicule me andag me as the pack weirdo, but I didn’t care.”
“I knew what I wanted from life and went ahead with accepting my feelings for him. Just when I thought we were at peace and happy, I found out he was in cahoots with some human hunters, planning to bring my kind to extinction.” She smiled, wiping away the tears that rolled down her face.
I’m very sorry, Grandma Shu. You didn’t deserve all those bad things that happened to you,” I sympathized with her, and she chuckled through her tears.
“I’m not telling you this story for you to feel sorry for me. I’m telling you this so you can pick up the pieces of yourself and find happiness, she advised.
“They will only succeed in breaking you if you let them. I’m speaking from my experience the shared, and I acknowledged her with a nod.
Grandma Shu led me to one of the empty rooms in her house and helped me arrange my few belonging, which had been thrown out by my family, into the wardrobe.
I was deep in thought, thinking that I might have found happiness in Grandma Shu. After dinner, I slept with a big smile on muy face. Maybe, just maybe, everything was finally falling into place.
The next morning, as I made my way into the school premises, the students were staring as usual. I was always the topic of gossip for them. With everything going on in my life, I chose to gnore it, but I couldn’t help being curious about what I had

done this time.
“Isabel,” Yuna called as she walked toward me with hurried steps,
Her eyes moved from my face to my stomach, then back to my ice. “What’s going on?” I questioned, searching her face for an answer. She rubbed the back of her neck in embarrassment.
“Yuna, what’s wrong?” I pressed again, and I heard snickers from the students, followed by loud laughter. I held my sling bag properly as my eyes moved from them back to Yuna, who was playing with her fingers nervously.
“Isabel, I think we should avoid them…” She hesitated, and I knew at that moment she was hiding something. When we got to the classroom, the laughter grew louder. They made fun of me, pointing fingers in my direction
“Isabel, you’re trending on the school site. Someone dropped gossip about you being pregnant with Caleb’s child,” she revealed. I pulled out my phone and rushed to the school site.
“I can’t possibly be pregnant. I’ve not been intimate with any man, and you know it,” I stated, as my cheeks heated up in
embarrassment.
I fought the urge to scream in frustration. Why was all of this happening to me? It felt like everything was turning against me. I honestly didn’t understand what I had done to deserve such cruelty.
Caleb? Why would anyone think I’d be intimate with Caleb?
You can skip classes today. I don’t think it’s a good idea to hang around when they’re going to keep at it for the rest of the day, she advised, and I rubbed my face.
“Why would anyone spread such rumors about me? It’s so painful. I admitted, and she pulled me into her arms.
As we walked down the hallway, I clenched my fists to control the anger surging through me.
“I can’t believe she’s carrying Caleb’s child and still gets to be mated to the Alpha princes. Talk about luck,” I heard them whisper.
“I’ve always known her to be a shameless witch. Why else would she accept them when she’s carrying someone else’s child?” Their voices echoed in my ears, and I couldn’t block them out,
“Dirty, wolfless girl,” their hurtful remarks reached my ears as I tried to fight them off, but I couldn’t, and tears rolled down my face.
Why was fate playing games with me? It hurt so much. I rubbed my face, trying to control my emotions, but it wasn’t working. I gave up and decided to go home.
I bumped into Amelia on my way out. “Oh, Isa,” she called mockingly, and her friends snickered, throwing me looks of disgust.
“I’m not interested in whatever you have to say, please,” I responded, and she laughed.
“Oh, of course, you’re interested, dear. After all, it involves the princes, she declared, flipping her hair dramatically and smirking in my direction.
“What do you stand to gain from all this, Amelia? Haven’t you caused me enough pain?*
“Yes, I’m not as strong as the rest of you. I have no wolf, and I’m the biggest mistake to have happened to the family, but don’t I deserve this bad treatment from all of you?” 1 snapped, fighting the urge to cry. The more I fought it, the more it overwhelmed me.
“Don’t you dare stand there and try to play the victim card? Of all people to be mated to, you chose the princes!” she burst out angrily.

“The moon goddess chose them, I explained to her.
“You think I’m a fool, Isabel? The moon goddess chose the princes as your mates, yet couldn’t heal you of the curse that’s about to kill you?” she mocked, and the girls laughed.
“Watch your back, Isabel. After all, we don’t want to hurt the baby in your womb,” she smirked, and I watched them walk past
- me.
I rushed out of the hallway as fast as my legs could carry me, holding back the tears that threatened to spill. I just wanted to be far away from everything that was happening. If possible, I wished the curse would kill me now and end this whole feud.
HECTOR’S POV
“The soldiers at the pack borders should be increased; we don’t want a repeat of what happened the other day,” I instructed firmly.
“The pack elders are breathing down our necks, and your know this,” I reminded my brother Hayden as he dropped some files on the table.
“Hector, you know the pack is in some sort of danger. It’s clear from the nightmares we’ve been having,” he pointed out, and an uncomfortable silence settled in the room.
Yes, we had both been plagued by the same nightmares for months, each depicting a bloodbath within the pack, leading to the deaths of many. We lost so much, and with each passing day, the dream replayed itself like a painful reminder of the catastrophe that awaited us.
“I don’t even know what to think anymore. In my opinion, we should get the girl to accept us as her mates. That should be our first step. Then, get her pregnant with our pup.”
“The pack needs an heir, Hayden. We’re wasting precious time waiting for her to come around,” I stated impatiently.
“Hector, she has feelings and emotions.” Hayden began, but his voice trailed off, and the empathy in his tone made me sick to my stomach.
A girl who couldn’t even stand up for herself? A wolfless girl, at that. She was too weak to rule the pack as our Luna. All I cared about was breaking the curse. The more time we gave her to accept us, the higher the risk of losing her to the curse became.
“Those feelings and emotions
uld bring us nothing but trouble, and you know it. What if she dies? Hayden, you know how difficult it was to find her–to find our mate,” I snapped, and his expression softened as he looked at me.
“I don’t care what she chooses to do with her life after we break the curse. For all I care, she can move on, I declared coldly.
“You’re letting your anger cloud your judgment. She is our mate Hector, Hayden reminded me. Just then, an Omega entered the room, carrying an envelope.
“What is it again?” I asked, obviously pissed by the whole thing. Hayden collected the envelope from him as he brought out the contents from the envelope
“You’re not saying anything, bro?” I asked and he rubbed his face,
“What does it say?” I demanded, watching his frown deepen as he read the letter.
“You’re awfully quiet, Hayden. What is it?” I pressed, and he rubbed his face in frustration.
“I don’t think you’ll want to see this, he replied, handing the letter over to me. My eyes darkened with fury as I squeezed the letter and dumped it at the other end of the roy
