Chapter 4
HECTOR’S POV
The conversation between Hayden and I left me thinking about Jabel. Caleb was not going to give out without a fight
We did not have classes today, Hayden and I sat before the pack elders, as they asked us questions about our mate. It was already obvious at this point that they were not impressed by the moon goddess’s choice of mate for us.
After they left, Hayden drank from the glass of wine on the table as he pinched the bridge of his nose and then looked away
“They don’t like her. I voiced out the exact thoughts in his mind before he could say them.
“I felt it too, they are not impressed by her, but that doesn’t mean we would let them say that to our face. It’s our duty to protect our mate against anyone that poses as a threat to her,” he uttered, and I hummed.
“Speaking of our mate, have you spoken to her after the incident with Caleb?” I asked, but an Omega interrupted our discussion as she made her way into the sitting room with a letter in her hand,
“What do you seek?” I asked curiously while furrowing my brows and she passed the letter to Hayden, who mirrored the expression on my face. We were both curious about the content of the letter that was sent to us.
“It’s a letter from Isabel’s parents,” she explained, and 1 didn’t bother to ask further questions.
News like our open declaration of Isabel being our mate spreads like wildfire in the pack. I’m not surprised that even the workers in the palace knew about it now,
“You may leave, I instructed, and she rushed out of our presence
“What does the invitation say?” I asked my brother, as he raised his eyebrows and answered, “It’s an invitation. It says they want to honour us and build up the relationship between their family and ours,” he read. As I tried to glance through the content of the letter in Hayden’s hand
“We have been invited to dine at their place this evening. What do you say?” he asked as he dropped the letter on the table,
“I say we go ahead and honour the invitation, it might help her feel more comfortable with us,” I suggested, and Hayden. smiled. He is happy that I was thoughtful about Isabel a bit. My decision still remains the same, sleep with her, break the curse, and move on.
We prepared for our visit to Isabel’s parents house. When it was time, Hayden and I sat at the back of our car as they drove us towards the direction of their home
“We are here,” the driver announced as he opened the car door for us to step outside. They were not exactly a wealthy family, but I will say they are average because of the structure of their house.
Even before we got close to the door, a woman in her late 40s made her way out of the house with a bright simile that made me feel a bit uneasy.
“Welcome, my Alpha princes,” she greeted, with a small smile on her face as she bowed a little. My brother and I acknowledged her greeting.
Welcome to our humble abode, I am Lisa, and this is my husband, Eric,” she introduced, as she pointed towards a man in his early 50s who I assume should be Isabel’s father.
He is a tall man with a strict face and glasses to match. “We are very happy to see that you have both honoured our invitation, and I’m so glad” He muttered as he also bowed a little, but we didn’t say anything.
“You are the parents of our Mate, Isabel. It will be more polite if we formally introduce ourselves too,” Hayden voiced out,

and they smiled.
“This way to the dining table, Lisa, Isabel’s mom, directed us, and we just walked with them.

My eyes scanned the entire sitting room, and I knew Hayden was probably doing the same. They invited us for dinner, but our mate was nowhere in sight.
“Hayden, Hector,” Evelyn called excitedly as she tried to come close to us, but I stepped backwards.
“I believe you have met our daughters, Evelyn and Amelia, their mom started, as she gestured towards Isabel’s sister, who smiled at us.
“Where is Isabel?” Hayden requested, and they did not look pleased that we were asking about Isabel
“That is not necessary, they are all our daughters, and we can assure you that Isabel is not the right choice for the both of you” Her mom declared as she stared at us as her eyes darted around the room.
Hayden began. “You invited us for dinner at your house because we declared our intentions clear to the whole pack
“For once you could have stuck to doing something good for Isabel!” Hayden snapped angrily, and I just could not wrap my head around the fact that these people were being serious right now.
“Isabel is our daughter, she doesn’t have a wolf and would die from the curse bestowed upon her,” her father explained. And by the look on his face, it was pretty obvious he did not feel an quince of remorse for spitting something so cruel about his daughter.
“As her parents, we would prefer you pick either Amelia or Evelyn to be your mate,” he continued, and at that moment Tabel made her way into the sitting room.
I knew she had been standing behind those doors, long enough to hear what was said. She thought I and Hayden wouldn’t know, her mated scent was strong for us not to know if she was around.
“Isabel, tell them you do not wish to accept the mate bond,” her mom urged her, and I have never felt more disgusted in my life.
“You know you will die soon
Evelyn added.
“I won’t die.” Isabel declared firmly, as she stared at her parents. To be honest, I loved that she stood up for herself.
“What do you think? That they are going to accept you? not even Caleb did. The pack members would throw shades at you for being too weak to rule as their Luna… Amelia mocked Isabel like we were not standing in front of them.
“ENOUGH! That’s ENOUGH!” I roared angrily, and they flinched.
“You both should leave,” Isabel announced, and I stared at her in disbeliet
“Isabel,
you are not safe here. Come with us, I urged her, but she looked away.
“Leave,” she declared, and Hayden gave me a knowing look. I tucked both hands in the pocket of my formal pants as we made our way out of her parent’s house.
ISABEL’S POV
As Hayden and Hector made their way out of our house, I could not help but feel pain in my heart from the hurtful words my parents said.
“You asked them to leave?” Evelyn asked, obviously pissed, but I did not say anything in response.
One thing about Evelyn is that she sees herself as the one with the final say in every situation, she thinks she knows

everything, and the world revolves around her.
She raised her voice at me. I asked you a question, Isabel, you live no rights whatsoever to treat me like my words do not
matter.”
“Who the hell do you think you are?” she busted angrily while raising her voice.
“Excuse me, Evelyn, I don’t think I have the time to have this conversation with you,” I stated, and her eyes burned into me.
“She asked you a simple question, Isabel,” Mom added, and I stared at her face with raised eyebrows,
“Are you kidding me right now? Evelyn cheated on me with Caleb, framed me up, and went as far as enjoying every bit of my rejection. Yet you feel it’s absolutely normal to ask me questions like that!” I busted out in equal anger.
No matter how I try to act like I am not pissed off by the whole situation, the constant pain caused by my own family is beginning to disgust me.
“I can’t believe you’re still bitter that Caleb chose your sister over you. How shocking that you can’t move on from him?” Amelia joined as she mocked, and I chuckled in disbelief.
It made me wonder how someone so extremely beautiful managed to get a heart as cruel as
hers.
“We finally have a chance to climb the social ladder, don’t ruin it for us with the curse on your head, the pack will never accept your union with the Alpha princes.” My father uttered as gritted my teeth in anger, and the pain I felt in my heart was unbearable.
This feeling wasn’t new, somehow I have gotten used to this familiar ache. It all started on my sixteenth birthday,
My parents have always treated the girls better than they’ve everitreated me, but somehow I felt it’s just their nature to be strict because they wanted the best for me.
It wasn’t until this very evening that I realised how mistaken I truly was. As we gather at the bonfire night for the shifting ceremony.
The ceremony was usually a public display of the new wolves every full moon. If a wolf is lucky, he or she might find their mate that night of the shifting ceremony,
That was the worst night of my life, even the thought of it sends chills down my spine, and I suddenly feel sick because I was the only wolf who never got to shift on that night.
I tried all my possible best for my wolf to come naturally and easily, but it didn’t. Everyone waited for me to shift, but I didn’t.
I heard different mocking voices as I tried to block them out of my head.
“How is that possible?”
“She hasn’t shifted!”
“She is indeed a cursed one.”
“Poor girl, she is always a disgrace,” the words from the pack members pierced through my ears as tears lled out of my eyes. I stared at my parents as they looked at me with an angry expression on their faces. My sisters stared at me with disgust as I moved backwards in shame.
“You have failed us, Isabel. How could you not shift in front of everyone? My mom yelled angrily, as she grabbed my hair and pushed me to the other side of the room, making me wince in pain.
My eyes moved over to my father, who equally looked embarrassed by the whole event of the evening

“I have not done anything wrong, I swear, I tried to change, but wasn’t working. I cried out, but Mom was not having it.
She went as far as hitting me over and over again. “I’m so sorry, mother….” My lips quivered in pain as I tried to stay calm.
“You have disgraced us, set up this family for insult in this pack. The whole Moon Stone Pack would talk down on us now, we don’t want to see your face….” she snapped angrily.
“Your mother is right, the last thing we want is to be referred to as the family members of a wolfless girl. I want you to stay indoors,” Dad declared as they walked away angrily.
The first few months after the incident were spent with me locked up like a prisoner in my own parent’s house.
According to them, they did not want my presence to fuel further talks from the members of the pack. It was on my first day out that I realised that I was indeed cursed by the moon goddess,
Why else would a werewolf not shift at his or her shifting ceremony? They called me a weakling and all sorts of names, a girl who did not deserve to live among them.
My first mate rejected me, and then the second. It was after my third mate’s rejection that my parents and I visited the pack seer, who explained the implications of my situation.
But according to him, the only way for me to find freedom from the curse is if I’m able to get my mate and be marked before my 18th birthday, or I will die.
Ever since then, I have been facing rejections from one mate to another.

Now, just when I no longer want to keep my hopes up, the princes have shown up to claim me as their mate. How am I supposed to just go from having no hope again to having all the hopes in the world?
What if they reject me at the last minute and ruin my chance at life again?
Should I trust them? Should I fight against my whole family to get a chance at happiness? Should I fight for the Alpha’s love? I wondered as I looked at them, but their glares burned into me.
“Stay away from the princes if you don’t want life to get harder for you than it already is. We will make your life a living hell, even if it means playing dirty.” Evelyn warned as she raised one side of her lips evilly.
“Watch your back, Isabel. I don’t give empty threats,” she added threateningly, and our parents did not say.
