My head snapped in Aidan’s direction as soon as Nadia mentioned his name, pointing to him.
A wide arena separated our rows of seats from where Aidan was standing, but that didn’t stop my heart from racing like it was competing in a marathon.
“Who?” Esme asked, following Nadia’s pointed hand.
Jenna went on to explain how Aidan showed up at the diner with flowers for me and Nadia, and I just sat there frozen. I couldn’t have found my voice if I tried.
I turned to Esme for a second, and she was also staring at Aidan.
“Do you know him?” I asked Esme, because I needed to shift my focus away from his face, or I risked burning up from this heat.
Esme shook her head once. “His face or name doesn’t ring a bell,” she added, before turning to face the other way.
My eyes betrayed me by looking over in Aidan’s direction one more time, and like a moth to a flame, I was glued.
Hot.
That was the word to describe Aidan.
Unlike the other times that I’d seen him since his arrival, his outfit for the evening was casual, giving his thirty–four–year–old frame a more boyish look.
“Why the hell am I keeping track of his age?” I asked myself.
“Maybe because you want to jump his bones and get pregnant with his baby,” Jenna joked, laughing away, and oblivious to how I just tensed up.
If only she knew.
I ignored Jenna and focused back on the man meters away from me.
Aidan had on a plain white round–neck shirt, paired with loose sweat shorts, exposing his muscular legs and arms. Tattoos covered his exposed biceps, and I inched to have a closer look or a bite.
I cautioned myself against any filthy thoughts, but my wolf only purred in defiance.
He completed his dressing with white sneakers and a pair of socks that were a little above the ankles. A single chain was on his neck, finishing off his dressing.
He looked freaking handsome, hence the females that were currently dropping their panties in his direction. My wolf growled possessively against them.
As if on cue, Aidan’s head turned in my direction, and I quickly averted my eyes hoping that he wouldn’t notice us.
“Please stay away,” I said silently. “Please stay away.”
Raising my head to see if my prayer was answered, I cursed silently as I watched him walk through the wide arena, easily dominating the entire gathering.
“Tara,” Aidan said with a small nod when he finally approached us. “Nadia,” he called, and a smile lit up both his face and Nadia’s.
Aidan silently greeted the other two people with us, but I couldn’t hear any of it with the way my heart was thrashing wildly in my ears.
He turned to me again before speaking. “Tara, I was hoping we could talk. Is that okay?”
I swallowed, trying to find my voice.
I stared at Aidan after he asked us to go somewhere and talk, and I kind of panicked a little.

Eventually, Nadia and I were going to have a conversation about Aidan being her father. It was only a matter of time, but Jenna and Esme were also going to be aware of that too.
I couldn’t also ignore the fact that Nadia shared an uncanny resemblance with her father. Just like Aidan, she had piercing hazel eyes. And just like him too, her hair was a deep brown color.
There were other minute but noticeable similar features that Aidan and Nadia shared, and one only needed to look twice to see it.
Eyebrows were bound to start raising soon, but I wasn’t ready yet.
Aidan and I needed to have a conversation, but for some reason, I was pushing it off.
“Can we talk for a minute, please?” Aidan asked again, staring at me from his standing position.
“I don’t think now is the time, Aidan. The party is about to begin,” I said, gesturing to the crowd that was now settling down.
“You won’t be able to avoid me forever. Why don’t we just have a chat now before my time here runs out?” Aidan pressed.
“I might not be able to avoid you forever, but I could try for a week. I’d rather your time ran out so that you can leave. It would make all of this so much easier,” I added with a tired sigh.
He fisted a hand to his chest, feigning hurt. “Ouch. I might just as well move to live out here, then we’d be forced to see each other every day. I really like the environment.”
My eyes shot wide with shock before I realized that he was pulling my legs.
“You can’t do that,” I said, and he just chuckled, so why did I find myself smiling? “You have a pack to run,” I continued. “Besides, I thought Attica pack and Vermont pack were sworn enemies?”
Aidan nodded. “They are, but the multipack moon meet supersedes all enmity and requires all the packs to be in attendance.”
Aidan wasn’t one for rules, so I answered. “Still, that shouldn’t have made you show up here. You came on your own accord, am I right?”
With a smile that reached his eyes, Aidan nodded. “Still so smart. I did come here for some other business, but that’s a topic for tomorrow if you’d like to have it.”
I easily understood that Aidan wanted a reason to come around me again, but I just brushed it off.
“Chat?” He asked for the third time with hopeful eyes. When he noticed that I was hesitating, he added, “Won’t take long. I promise.”
