She picked up her mug and drank some water to calm herself down. “Chin up. You’ll find someone and settle down with them, and they’ll be your home.”
Christopher heaved a sigh. “It’s not easy to find someone you love who loves you back.”
Angela agreed. Many women would love to be the wife of the cream of the crop, but those men were extremely picky about their partners. Most women would never gain those men’s love. Christopher’s next question snapped Angela out of her thoughts.
“Do you have anyone you like?”
“No.” Angela pursed her lips. She was not someone who would give up everything for love. If the love was unrequited, she would just give up on it rather than torture herself.
Christopher smiled. It was a beautiful and mysterious smile. “Perhaps you’ll find one soon.”
Yeah, at least after I deliver my child and get the divorce. She smiled and changed the subject, “I’ll come up with a few designs as per your criteria. You’ll just have to make the pick later.”
“Sure.” Christopher nodded.
Angela led him to the elevator. “I’ll email you once the drafts are done.” The elevator door swung open and she was about to leave, but Christopher called out to her.
“A minute, Angela.” He approached her and brushed his fingers across her hair.
Angela blushed. “W–What’s wrong?”
“Don’t move.” He picked out the scrap of paper in her hair.
Awkward, Angela scratched her head. And I thought… Oh, what was I thinking? “Thanks.”
Conrad stood nearby, and he saw everything. Anger surged in his heart and he stepped. ahead, his eyes flaring with darkness. “What brought you here, Christopher?”
Christopher shrugged. “It’s our aunt’s birthday soon. I came here to get her a custom–made necklace.” He smiled at Angela. “We’ll text.” He then walked into the elevator.
Angela noticed that the brothers were not on good terms. Their greeting did not sound friendly at all.
Just when she was about to leave, Conrad said darkly, “To my office.”
My God. Reluctantly, she turned around and followed him, her head hanging low. Once in the office, Conrad kicked the door shut.

He was replaying the scene of Christopher taking out the paper from Angela’s hair in his mind, and it stoked his flames of fury. “Did you forget what I told you?”
Angela gulped. She wasn’t planning on listening to him, given that the order was nonsensical. “I was just working. You’d never bring your emotions to work, Mr. Heathcliff. You wouldn’t let your personal affairs get in the way of work, would you?”
Conrad couldn’t argue since she was right, but it was annoying to him and he wanted to vent. He whirled around and pinned her against the wall. “Don’t play semantics with me.”
Angela mustered up her courage and stared him in the eye. “I’m not. I’m just telling the truth. We should treat every single client with respect, no matter who they are. That’s the rule.”
Every word she spoke stoked Conrad’s anger more. His heart swelled with rage, and it almost burst out of him. Frustrated, he grabbed her head and sunk his fingers into her hair. “If you’re still being delusional, I can help you with it. Christopher will never fall for you. He’s approaching you because he has plans for you.”
Angela stiffened. What’s that supposed to mean? Because I’m worthless? Because I’m a nobody, I don’t deserve to be loved? She clenched her fists. He stepped on my dignity, crushed it, and ground it into dust.
