Chapter 14 You’ve Gone Too Far
Slightly taken aback, Angela quickly glanced at the photo. It was definitely her in the picture.

“I’m sure this was taken secretly at the jewelry exhibition. He harassed me, and I gave him a good scolding until he left,” she said before pausing for a moment. “I have standards when it comes to finding a partner. First and foremost, they must meet my moral standards. I would never get involved with a married man. Second, they must meet my standards of attractiveness. As a designer, I pursue ultimate beauty, both in aesthetics and in people.”
Conrad narrowed his eyes slightly, revealing a hint of darkness that made him appear unusually mysterious.
“How many men have met your standards?” he asked.
Was he prying into her personal life?
A wave of resentment surged through Angela’s heart like a raging river.
“I’ve been single my whole life. I’ve never been in a relationship or even been a proper woman. Yet, I’m going to become a mother. Don’t you think I’m incredibly miserable and unfortunate?” she exclaimed, feeling deeply wronged.
Conrad didn’t believe a word she said. When she had tried to seduce him, she had acted so experienced. How could she still be a virgin?
“I remember you said you liked someone,” he remarked.
He had an unforgettable memory; he remembered every word she had said.
Angela stuck out her tongue. She had intentionally said that last time because she was frustrated. However, she did meet a boy during a trip whom she had a special liking for. Unfortunately, they lost contact, and it was probably because he wasn’t interested in her.
“I do like someone, but we haven’t been involved,” she confessed.
“Why not?” Conrad inquired.
“It’s just a one–sided pursuit, you know.” Angela blushed, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
Conrad was slightly surprised. He didn’t expect her to be so straightforward.
In reality, he didn’t care about her past romances. As long as he could be certain that the child was his, it was enough for him.
He leaned back in his chair, picked up his cup, and took a sip of coffee. In his deep, dark eyes, a flicker of profound and unfathomable coldness could be seen.
“Do I meet your standards?” he asked in a casual tone as if it were just a passing question. Nevertheless, Angela couldn’t miss the hidden threat in his words.
He was clearly testing her, and if she answered even a single word incorrectly, it would be game over.
of my league; I dare not pursue someone like you,” Angela replied.
“You exceed them. You’re way o

“I hope you truly know your place. Those who set their goals higher than the heavens are destined to have their lives cut short.”
Taking the money and leaving was Angela’s ultimate fate. If she dared to play tricks under his nose, she would be digging her own grave.
Angela was never ambitious. She was an ordinary person; having a job she could strive for and a stable life was enough for her.
“Don’t worry. I know my worth very well,” she said.
She would never, and could never, entertain any illusions about the man before her.
That night, as she returned home, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
Kelly suddenly appeared as a troublemaker, and it was highly unusual. Could she be acting on someone’s orders?
Lana was in the kitchen at that moment, preparing dinner.
Angela walked in and offered, “Lana, let me help you wash the vegetables.”
She picked up a cabbage and started washing it.
Lana quickly protested, “Miss Angela, you shouldn’t do that. You should take care of yourself and not tire yourself out.”
Angela smiled gently. “I’m not that delicate, and you don’t have to call me Miss Angela. Just call me Angie. After spending so many days together, I already consider you like a dear aunt of mine.”
Lana also felt the warmth. Angela didn’t treat her as a servant, and Lana quite liked her.
“Since you see me as your aunt, let me share something on my mind with you. You’re already carrying Mr. Conrad’s child, so why not try to claim the position of his wife?” Lana suggested.
Angela nearly choked. She didn’t want to degrade herself, nor did she have the courage to do so, Just the thought of Conrad’s disdainful gaze made her tremble.
“Lana, Miss Prescott is the woman Mr. Heathcliff likes. I can only wish them happiness and hope they become a couple. How could I ever ruin their relationship?” Angela stated firmly.
Lana waved her hand dismissively. “Mr. Conrad doesn’t like Miss Prescott. Miss Prescott’s mother is the adopted daughter of Elder Heathcliff and Old Mr. Heathcliff’s adopted younger sister. Old Mr. Heathcliff dotes on his niece, Miss Prescott, so despite Mr. Conrad’s objections, he arranged for them to be engaged. In truth, Mr. Conrad already has someone he likes.”
“Oh? Who is it?” Angela’s curiosity was piqued, and she couldn’t help but become interested.
