Chapter 13
“Courtney. I know you’ve suffered, but you can’t change what has already happened,” James said as he walked over and patted Courtney’s shoulder.
He then looked at Austin “You need to make a decision. It’s the perfect moment to do so in front of everyone.
Don’t make it harder for my daughter
“Austin, you’d better make the right choice,” Lorraine said angrily, clenching her fists.
Courtney hirned her gaze to Austin. Everyone was waiting for Austin to answer,

Courtney’s grip tightened on the pen, the tip of it digging into her palm, blood soaking through her fingers. Lorraine was right; these people were all bullying her because she had no family backing her up.
“Courtney. I’m sorry. Finally, Austin spoke those words in front of everyone.
“Austin, you bastard” Lorraine yelled at him uncontrollably.
“Austin, what you’ve done is unforgivable,” others chimed in, speaking up for Courtney. After all, they wouldn’t have made it back alive without her.
Im
sorry. It’s all my fault. I can’t think straight right now, so please don’t force me to make a choice.“Austin hesitated.
He couldn’t make a decisive choice for the sake of his own benefit, nor could he firmly choose Courtney for the sake of his feelings.
Thus, he stood there, caught in the middle, indecisive.
Vera was clearly angered. She had expected Austin to choose her without question.
“Austin!” Vera yelled at him, then glared at Courtney, her voice filled with madness. “Don’t get too smug. He won’t choose you. We’ll see how this plays out”
With that, Vera stormed off
Austin stood there, wanting to take Courtney’s hand. “Courtney, give me some time.”
Courtney instinctively pulled her hand away, looking at Austin with cold indifference and distance
“Everyone, please go to the conference room. Mr. Lewis will give you all an explanation,” a spokesperson from the hospital’s public relations department said, urging everyone to head to the conference room to discuss the compensation policy.
Courtney didn’t go. She didn’t want compensation, and she would never compromise.
They had been hijacked by terrorists in South Weidan, and it wasn’t an accident. Those people had known their route and were aware they were espera in infectious diseases.
Over the five years, Courtney had suspected this, but there had been no concrete evidence. Since Hayden was an undercover cop, he wouldn’t have said anything without a reason.
“Country: “Sering Courney stayed, Lorraine didn’t go, either. She stayed by Courtney’s side.

Chapter 13
“Just a little pressure, and you can’t even speak anymore. You really deserve it. You should’ve just died over there.” She glared at Courtney madly. “There’s no precedent for a mute doctor at our hospital”
Vera scoffed. “You’re pathetic. You’ve lost your parents, and your husband was no longer yours. You have no power, no background, and now you can’t even speak. You’ll lose your job, too. How are you going to survive? Why don’t you just end it all?”
Courtney clenched her fists tightly, glaring at Vera.
Vera was James‘ daughter. She had been arrogant and spoiled since school, the epitome of a rich, pampered young lady.
Courtney simply raised her hand, and Vera stepped back in fear, thinking Courtney would hit her again.
But Courtney only adjusted her hair, and Vera gritted her teeth. “171 remember those slaps you gave me today. Listen carefully, Courtney, you have nothing now. Your parents are gone, and no one will protect you anymore.”
“With the Lewis family’s status in Henisburg, and our power in this hospital. I can easily make sure you’ll never survive here, she threatened.
Vera took out a card. “This card has 30 thousand dollars on it. If you’re smart, take the money and leave Henisburg. Never show your face here again. Otherwise… I’ll make you regret coming back alive.”
Courtney picked up her notepad and wrote. [The Lewis family isn’t untouchable in Henisburg!]
Vera sneered, eyes full of sarcasm. “You still don’t understand, do you? My sister Marilyn has long been engaged to the Reed family–the most powerful family in Henisburg”
“I’m sure you’ve heard of them haven’t you?” she went on. “The Reed family is so powerful here that no one in Henisburg can afford to cross them.”
Courtney took a deep breath and sneered, thinking that the Lewis family and the Reed family were all a bunch of rich bastards.
[I’m waiting to see what you can do to me, Courtney wrote, then reached out and took Vera’s card, tossing it directly into the trash can.
Vera’s brow furrowed as she gave a mocking laugh. “Very well, Courtney. From now on, every day, I make you regret still being alive
“I see you’ve become disconnected from society after being kidnapped for five years. You probably don’t know this, but to me, people with no background and no family are just bugs. I can crush you with ease,” she added.
Courtney glared at Vera with anger, writing. [Wait and see.]
