Chapter 28 Hidden Motives
“Theo, when did you get back trom abroad? Liam and 1 had no idea. If we had known, we would’ve organized a welcome banquet for you,” Janet said with a bright smile, presenting herself as a warm and caring sister–in–law,
However, her sharp gaze betrayed a more calculating nature,
On the surface, she seemed concemed for Theo, but underneath, she was subtly reproaching him for not informing them of his return, as if he intentionally ignored
them.
been back at the company for three days, but I haven’t seen my Liam there. I figured he didn’t want to see me, so I
Theo raised an eyebrow and replied coolly, “I’ve b didn’t want to disturb either him or you.”
Liam’s expression shifred slightly, and he glanced at Edward, who was glaring at him with obvious fury. Edward snatched an apple from the table and hurled it at him
“You’re supposed to be running the company, but you haven’t shown up for three
good are you?” Despite his age, Edward’s voice remained strong,
Liam scrambled to pick up the apple and quickly explained, “Dad, I’ve been feeling unwell, which is why I haven’t been at the company.” “Yes, Dad. Liam had a fever and is only just getting better. I’ll make sure he goes to the company tomorrow. Please don’t get upset–it’s bad for your health,” added quickly, shooting a sharp look at Theo
Nothing ever went well when he returned.
“All excuses!” Edward snorted coldly, clearly frustrated. Did they
think he was too old to see through their schemes?
For years, Theo had managed overseas ventures while Liam had overseen domestic operations

In the past few days, not only have they been absent from the company, but even the shareholders they aligned with have started calling in sick. It was a calculated attempt to make things difficult for Theo.
Did they think they could take over the group with such a narrow mindset? What a joke!
Liam lowered his head, guilt gnawing at him. But Janet felt no such remorse. In her mind, she wasn’t in the wrong.
Edward was clearly biased. Liam was the eldest, so surely, the company should pass to him. Even if Theo was more capable, couldn’t be simply assist Liam Instead?
It was all blased and unreasonable, and they weren’t even allowed to protest!
“I can’t rely on any of you to ease my worries!” Edward’s gaze darkened, his mouth pressed in a grim line as he turned to Benson, who had kept his head lowered. He said in a stern voice, “Drinking at a bar is one thing, but getting drunk and starting a tight that lands you in the police station–do you really think that’s something to be proud of?”
Benson pursed his lips together and stood up, bowing his head in apology. “It was that person who first harassed my assistant. I lost my temper and didn’t hold. back. I’m sorry, Grandpa I promise I won’t act impulsively again.”
“And what about your drinking?” Edward’s voice grew even bigayler, his expression darker than before. “Your housekeeper says you’ve been coming home drunk a lot lately. Have you forgotten that our family forbids drinking? Or do you just not care?”
Off to the side, Theo’s eyes darkened The Gray family’s ban on alcohol stemmed from his mother’s incident.
Years ago, Renee had been killed in a car accident caused by the family’s driver, who had been drinking on the job.
Ever since, Edward had developed an intense aversion to alcohol. Drinking In the house was strictly forbidden, and it was not tolerated even outside of work related social events,
However, Bensonlad just stepped squarely into Edward’s greatest taboo.
