Chapter 57
Kenneth’s words made everyone sladder. They instinctively cleared a path for Kenneth and Heidi, allowing them to approach Nicole, Aaron, and Jacob swiftly. Heidi looked over at Nicole before asking. “Nicole, are you alright? Are you hurt?”
Aaron still had Nicole clutched tightly in his embrace, so she could only look at Heidi She shook her head to let her know that she was fine.
On the other hand, Jacob was behaving like a rabid dog that would bite anyone who got too close. When he spotted Kenneth and Heidi, he spat out, “Mr. and Mrs. Boyd, did you know that Nicole and I were a couple for three years? She loved me to death at the time, so I cannot accept that she’s now trying to get together with another man!”
Kenneth and Heidi looked extremely upset at the sudden revelation. They couldn’t believe that Nicole was together with Jacob for three years. They didn’t approve of Jacob at all. Although he was the heir of the Escobar family, he didn’t have any capabilities of his own and was wholly dependent on his family’s help to survive. There were also rumors that his results in university were abysmal, and he had to spend money to cover up his humiliation.
Daniel Escobar and Michelle Little, Jacob’s parents, had just arrived at the banquet. They also hurried over to what the commotion was. Daniel looked immensely upset, as he couldn’t believe that Jacob was stirring up trouble yet again. He yelled, “Jacob, what foolish mess have you gotten yourself into now?”
Nicole, I’m giving you one more chance. Return to my side now. If you refuse, don’t blame me for airing out more of your dirty laundry!” Jacob threatened. Noticing how Kenneth and Heidi’s faces immediately darkened at Jacob’s words, Daniel and Michelle could feel their hearts leap into their throats. A nerve throbbed near Daniel’s brow as he rushed forward and twisted jacob’s earlobe.
“You must have gone mad! Do you have any idea where you are right now? Why are you barlding at the others like a mad dog? If you continue to behave this way, we won’t acknowledge you as our son!”
Meanwhile, Michelle approached Kenneth and Heidi with an apologetic look on her face. Her words came out in a stutter as she said, “Mr. and Mrs. Boyd, w–we’re truly sorry. We hope you don’t take Jacob’s words to h–heart. We’ll make sure to discipline him thoroughly after we take him back home.”
Heidi’s tone was cold as she replied, “Don’t take his words to heart? After all the temible things he said about my daughter? Do you think that the Boyds can be trifled with so easily?”
She was extremely protective over her daughters. If she had known that Nicole was her daughter sooner, she wouldn’t have allowed Jacob even a chance to make her acquaintance
Aaron’s tone was just as icy when he asked, “Mrs. Escobar, do you really think that today’s incident can be resolved with just
just a simple apology?”
The color drained from Michelle’s face upon hearing his words. She froze and didn’t dare speak another word. She could only glare at Jacob with reddened eyes, silently berating him for being such a troublesome son who only knew how to cause problems for their family.
Nicole took a deep breath, Unable to hold back the insults that were bubbling at the back of her throat, she sneered, “You don’t care about your reputation, do you, Jacob? Why don’t tell everyone here who you really are behind your public persona? What do you think?”
Her gaze was calm and her voice was steady as she declared, “I want everyone here to know that Jacob tricked me into thinking that he was poor to get close to the when we were in university, I worked a part–time job to give him all the money I had to help him with his finances without sparing even a single cent. Do you know how Jacob repaid me for all my hard work? By telling me that he was only playing around with me!”
Nicole pulled out her phone from her handbag and showed everyone the bills of every single expense she had spent on Jacob throughout the years.
Jacob’s expression morphed into one of horror. He didn’t think that Nicule would actually expose him. The onlookers let out surprised sighs at the revelation. It was hard to believe that Jacob would stoop so low. He was the heir of a prestigious tamily, and yet he was willing to trick an innocent woman into believing he was poor. He was shameless, heartless, and wone than a beast!
Jacob attempted to defend himself. “Stop spreading lies, Nicole. You’re the one who gave me all that money of your own volition!TM
Nicole narrowed her eyes at him. “Do you want me to play the audio recordings as prout? I savedyll the voice messages that you sent me for the past three years. Shall I play every instance where you whined about being poor and begged me to pay for your bills?shall I play them for everyone to hear?”
Her every word was like a knife that stabbed deeply into Jacob’s heart.
