Soren pursed his lips and avoided Winry’s gaze.
The more he thought about it, the deeper his guill toward Zara grew. If she hadn’t left and had. stayed by his side, he might have truly been thrilled to accept Winry’s proposal when she said she wanted to be with him.
His evasive behavior only deepened Winry’s disappointment. Her red lips trembled slightly with anger, and after a long pause, a bitter laugh escaped her lips.
“Fine, Soren. I must have been blind to ever fall for a man like you,” Winry said with a sneer.
Furious, she turned to leave. But just as she reached the door, she stopped and looked back at him. “You’re pathetic. You’ll never end up with the one you truly love. Serves you right!
With that, she slammed the door shut behind her The loud bang echoed in the silent room.
Soren flinched. He wasn’t sure if it was the sound of the door or her words that struck him so deeply. Now alone in the room, he tossed and turned on the hospital bed. He felt unsettled and bothered.
After some time, he grabbed his phone and called Jamie again. “Look into Zara’s past. I want every detail from her birth until now.”
By the next morning, Jamie had delivered all the information he requested before his friends
arrived.
As Soren flipped through the pages, his expression soured further with each revelation.
The report detailed how Zara had once had a childhood sweetheart named Andy Wakefield. They were considered a match made in heaven by everyone around them. They had been together for 13 years and were about to get married.
But tragedy struck four years ago when a car accident disrupted their lives. Andy died protecting Zara in the crash.

He thought back to the time she fought with Winry over the necklace. When he had asked if it was worth it, she had screamed that it was because it was a gift from the person she loved most. He also remembered her stunned expression when he casually offered to buy her

Then there was the night they played truth or dare. When asked if the person she loved most was present, she had answered without hesitation-“No.”
She hadn’t lied. It was just that he’d misunderstood her.
Soren set the file down. He struggled to control his emotions. But despite his efforts, his eyes turned red.
“Mr. Blight, are you alright?” Jamie’s cautious voice broke the silence.
Soren waved him off without responding, signaling for him to leave. Taking the hint, Jamie started to leave but paused at the door when Soren called out to him.
“Find out if the person who received Andy’s heart is currently in Halcyona.”
“Sure, Mr. Blight.”
The door closed softly, and complete silence engulfed the room once more. The quiet atmosphere was suffocating. Soren couldn’t hold back his emotions anymore.
He raised his hands to cover his face as suppressed sobs escaped his throat.
He had always thought he could walk away from Zara whenever he wanted. He pitied her for loving him and allowed her to stay by his side for a little longer. He had even convinced himself that if she couldn’t live without him, he could keep her around as a mistress even they were divorced.
