Monica’s voice was dripping with charm, the kind that could make any man waver, as she spoke over the phone. “Is this Mr. Escobar? I’m Monica Boyd, betress of Boyd Corporation.”
Jacob’s reply remained flat as he curtly asked, “What do you want?”
“I heard you broke up with Nicole. Funny thing is, she and 1 have a bit of history. Are you interested in teaming up?”
Jacob only showed the slightest flicker of emotion when he heard Nicole’s name. “You? You know Nicole?”
Monica’s tone lifted with a hint of amusement as she replied, “Not only do I low her, but there’s also a lot of bad blood between us.”
To Monica’s surprise, Jacob cut right through her theatrics.
“You were involved with those rumors circulating online, weren’t you? Nicole operated on Mr. Boyd, and someone stirred up a storm, turning public opinion against her Was that your doing?”
Monica hesitated, caught off guard. She hadn’t expected Jacob to be this sharp.
After a brief pause, she tried to regain the upper hand, “Mr. Escobar, weren’t you trying to get back at your ex? I was just helping. You should be thanking me “Ms. Boyd, I don’t like people interfering in my affairs. Don’t try to play smart.”

Before she could finish, Jacob hung up.
Monica’s expression darkened once again. Her grip tightened around her phone. She couldn’t believe Jacob dared hang up on her. So what if he was the beir to the Escobar family?
She was the heiress to the Boyd family, and her fiance was the future head of the Compton family. What made Jacob think he outranked her in any way? Funous, she hurled her phone across the room.
The next morning, Monica was awakened by the sound of staff bustling through the house, cleaning and tidying.

It had been far too long since she last saw him. Naturally, she had to look perfect to catch his attention, especially now that Nicole was living under the same root. There was no way she would let herself be overshadowed.
When Monica stepped out again, she was dressed in a custom–designed ensemble. Her look was effortless on the surface, but every detail had been carefully planned.
She approached Heidi, slipping her arm through the latter’s affectionately.
“Mom, since Aaron’s visiting, maybe we can finally talk about the engagement,”
Heidi didn’t respond right away. After all, the engagement had been initially arranged for her biological daughter, Nicole.
When Nicole went missing, the Comptons hadn’t called off the arrangement. And once Monica grew older and developed feelings for Aaron, Heidi rigured that there was no bar in letting her take Nicole’s place.

Just then, the sound of a catengine rolled in from outside. Held and Monica stepped out to greet the guest.
“Aaron!” Monica called out, lighting up the moment she saw him. She hurried over, reaching out to take lais arm.
