Chapter 14
Jacob gritted his teeth, his voice cold and full of spite as he spat. “Nicole, you brought this onto yourself!
After tipping off several major media outlets, he waited eagerly for the moment Nicole would show up, desperate and hom
By dawn, a sensational news article exposing Nicole for switching Kenneth’s medication at the hospital–an act that allegro him in critical condition–had gone viral on social media.
The moment the news broke, Silverwood Hospital’s official account crashed from the flood of traffic.
Comments poured in beneath the news article.
“Wait, Silverwood Hospital? I trusted that hospital the most! I can’t believe that they hire doctors like this! How are we supposed to feel safe going there now!
“She’s only 25 years old and already tuming against society? I feel sorry for any patient who’s had the misfortune of being on her operating table.”
“Why is her face blurred out? Nevertheless, we’ll find her!”
Meanwhile, Monica sat in her room, legs crossed comfortably as she scrolled through her phone.
When she saw the news article, her eyes lit up with surprise. She clicked on it immediately, and a smug grinccept onto her lips.
She had no idea who was behind it, but thought that whoever orchestrated it had done a masterful job of dragging Nicole into public disgrace.
How could she miss out on adding fuel to the fire?
As such, Monica spent ten thousand dollars employing over a thousand Internet trolls to flood the hospital’s comment section with hateful remarks about Nicole. Someone even managed to dig up Nicole’s graduation photo and ID picture.
After using Photoshop, Nicole’s face was made to look sallow and sickly, sparking a new wave of personal attacks on her looks.
“She’s sa ugly. No wonder she became a doctor! Hiding behind a surgical maskall day is probably the only way she has the confidence to leave the house. Otherwise, who would hire her?”

“Exactly! She’s a disgrace to the medical program at Silverwood University.”
Someone else responded, “I’m a medical student at Silverwood University. Rumor has it that she paid her way through school and schemed her way into scholarships. She has always been manipulative!”
Monica was giddy just from reading through the flood of insults.
Meanwhile, Nicole had already washed up and settled into bed. The mattress was soft and huge, and the blanket carried a refreshing scent. She lay quietly, looking up at the ceiling, unable to believe how dramatically her life lud changed.
This was her biological family. Moreover, Boyd Corporation was one of Silverwood’s major public enterprises.
She forced herself to close her eyes, uncertain it this version of reality would still exist when she awoke.
Just as she was falling asleep, insistent knocks sounded at her door.
Nicole’s eyes sprang open. Her chest tightened as she stepped out of bed to answer the door.
When she opened it, she saw Monica standing there in a nightgown, her eyes brimming with condemnation.
Before Nicole could speak, Heidi appeared, looking alert.
“Monica, what’s going on?”
Monica’s eyes weir red, with tears pooling in them as she handed over her phone and showed the niks
“Mom, the news about Nicole causing Dad’s heart attack is everywhere right now. All of the Internet is questioning her ethics, just imagine the damage this will cause to our family’s naine. Besides, Dad’s still in the hospital. 11 he finds out about this, his condition could get worse.”
As she spoke, she carefully observed Heidi’s reaction, discreetly gauging them.
She was certain that Heidi wouldn’t bear having such a horrible daughter atter seeing the flood at online backlash.
After all, Heidi hud nurtured Monica with great care.
Heidi’s expression clouded. A deep scowl formed between her brows, and the cold air around her was impossible to ignore.
