Luna was unaware of Rhett’s gaze. She kept her head down, tapping on her phone as she replied to Wyatt and the others.
“accept
cept your apology, but I’ve already left Professor Hanley’s team and have no intention of retuming!”
She posted this directly under their apology thread, then took a screenshot and shared it on her profile, tagging the two guys involved in the ber
she still didn’t know who the “bold guy” was, but that didn’t stop her from helping him, especially since the other guy was Wyatt.
Although the Wyatt family didn’t care about a small bet, the idea of giving him a hard time delighted her. Even her eyes were smiling. “Come on. It’s getting late. I’ll walk you back.” Rhett said, picking up her school bag. He was surprised by how heavy it was.
Luna looked a little embarrassed. “I can carry it myself. Thanks, Rhett.”
“No need. Let’s go.” Rhett looked stem when he wasn’t smiling. He slung her bag over his shoulder and walked ahead, leaving her no chance to argue Jshe could only follow obediently, like a quiet little duckling
It was too late to head back to her dorm, so Luna returned to Suzie’s quarters for the night. At the door, she quickly snatched back her bag and dashed upstairs. Bye, Rhett!”
Rhett sighed. Why did she run off like a timid rabbit–yet she was kind of adorable!
Once he saw the light switched on upstairs, he turned and headed back, pulling out his phone as he walked. He immediately saw Luna’s p
account.
He tapped out a reply under her tag. “A young lady with great resolve! The future holds great things for her.”

Back at his desk, Wyatt stared at Luna’s latest post, seething as he slammed his mouse down in frustration.
No way! Was she not returning? Was she willing to give up the chance to stay in Velmora and join one of the top medical teams in the country?
Why? How could anyone be so foolish? Did she go through all of this just to defend her name, as they’d wrongly accused her? Did she feel nothing for the time she spent on the team?
His phone buzzed repeatedly, with Trevor’s name showing on the caller ID.
He ignored it. Soon, the screen showed several missed calls from Ethan, Russell, and Kevin. Everyone was calling him. No one had expected Luna to be serious about not coming back
Wyatt took a deep breath. He opened the group chat and started a video call.
Everyone joined quickly–even Mia logged in.
“Wyatt… Do you think we misunderstood her?” Trevor was didn’t want to bum bridges completely.

Kevin yawned. “I think she just found a new backer. Now that she has support, she’s acting tough. Otherwise, would she dare to reject our otter?
e just wanted to get to the truth behind the plagiarism and accusations. Maybe it wasn’t as deep as we thought,” Russell said, hesitantly. His feelings toward Luna were tangled–resentful that she hadn’t helped him but at the same time haunted by memories of her kindness. Ethan sighed. “Kevin might be right. She’s found someone to rely on. We’re no longer important to her. Wyatt, she’s throwing down the gauntlet.”
