In the bat, shadows danced as the lights flickered, Darren’s lowered gaze growing darker and more somber.
Ethan caught the shift and raised his eyebrows, trying to make things worse. “She really doesn’t need to. She’s doing well
after leaving you.
“Doing well?” Darren scoffed, his jaw tightening as he glared at him. How can you be so sure? How could she possibly be okay without me or the Luther family? It doesn’t matter if you wear glasses, Ethan. You’re still as blind as before!”
Ethan’s smile grew wider. “Why are you resorting to personal attar ks?”
“I do what I want!” Darren glared at him.
Ethan slowly spread his hands, his tone flat but sounded annoying. I’m just stating facts. She’s got money, looks, backup options, and tons of fans who adore her. Isn’t that what you call doing well?”
“Being a social media influencer, diving into the chaotic entertainment industry, and getting called “wifey‘ by a bunch of random guys? Is that what you call a good life?” Darren laughed coldly, glancing toward Nicole. “If you think so. I could help Nicole join the industry.”
Ethan frowned, running his fingers over his glass. “Focus on your own stuff. It has nothing to do with her.”
Hearing that, the mockery deepened on Darren’s face. “As soon as the woman we’re talking about is your girl, you immediately turn on me. Then who are you to tell me Natalie is doing great?”
Ethan remained silent, casting him a sideways glance.
Darren felt his anger rise, downing two more shots but still feeling tight in his chest. He set his glass down with a thud, his voice low and thick with emotion. “She should enjoy being with me. No one would dare speak dirty words in front of her or challenge her. She’s the only one who gets to speak in the Luther family. That’s what I call doing well!
“She doesn’t have to struggle for money or deal with people beneath her level. Those people didn’t even deserve to talk to
her.
“However, without the Luther family and me beside her, she has to lower herself, record shows in such hot weather, and cram on trains. Whenever she goes to the hotel, she can only book a regular room instead of a presidential suite. Is that what you call doing well?” Darren said coldly, “During our three years together, she never suffered like this.”
Ethan chuckled sofily, cutting him off. “Even if you didn’t know her background before the divorce, Darren, you must have some idea now. She’s not as worthless as you think. Leaving you and the Luther family doesn’t make her a nobody.”
Darren’s expression shifted noticeably.
Ethan saw he had hit a nerve but continued, “When Vacok, GirlLove, and Vibrant Journey apologized to her, you knew that the 30 million dollars you gave her might buy luxury goods, but it couldn’t buy the kind of respect she wanted. That’s not something just any nouveau riche can attain. Therefore, her joining that show might be because she wants to.
Darren pursed his lips, pouring another drink without saying a word.
“Have you found out anything about her family background? Ethan suddenly asked.
Darren paused, shaking his head. “No.”
Ethan leaned back onto the couch. “You’ve clearly been looking to her, which shows you know the answer. You just don’t
want to admit it.
“What am I supposed to admit?” Darren shot back, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Ethan remained unfazed, speaking deliberately. “You don’t want to admit she’s not just some bumpkin from the mountains. and that she genuinely doesn’t want to remarry you. You certainly can’t accept that she doesn’t like you anymore.”
With a harsh thud. Darren slammed his glass down on the table, his previously icy expression now shadowed by the flickering lights..
He leaned forward, trying to suppress his growing anger. “How could she possibly not like me? She loved me for three years with her eyes, her heart, everything was centered on me. She followed me for three whole years! There’s no way she could just stop loving me!”
Ethan said, “Nothing is impossible,” Ethan said calmly, “A person like her with an outstanding family background, ability, and looks, willingly stayed by your side for three years, which shows she did like you. However, after the divorce, she moved on, found someone else, and is living her new life while rejecting your attempts to reconcile.
“She has moved on, Darren.”
Darren heard the same sentence twice in one night. He suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart, and it was more profound and suffocating than facing Natalie.
He clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. He wanted to stop Ethan from continuing but found himself unable to speak.
He listened as Ethan calmly laid out the cruel truth. “Do you remember that game you used to love as a kid? You were obsessed with it, but do you still enjoy it now?”
“Stop,” he murmured, instinctively wanting to escape what he sensed was coming.
Ethan pressed on, chilling him further with each word. “You’re like that game to her, Darren. She was obsessed, but you never let her win, so she gave up on you.”
Darren shook his head, grasping for a final glimmer of hope. “She said she liked me, so she has to keep liking me! She must!
Ethan sighed, visibly frustrated. “What about you? Do you like her?”
Darren paused, looking down at his lighter. “She’s the mother of my child. Whether I like her or not, she has to live with me.” Ethan couldn’t help but laugh at Darren’s stubbornness. “Saying you like her won’t make you any
weak.”
Upon hearing this, Darren’s face instantly flushed. “I won’t say it What are you gonna do, bite me?” Ethan was exasperated. He rubbed his jaw, tired of the conversation. “If you don’t like her, just let her go.” “That’s impossible.” Darren said without hesitation, “We have a child together. I won’t let her go.”
Ethan stared at him in disbelief. “What a psycho. You divorced her and you should stop harassing her!”
“Mind your own business!” Darren filled his glass with wine. T’m happy with it!”
Ethan chuckled. “Honestly, I almost forgot about the kid. Did she really drug you and trick you into getting her pregnant? You’re an alcoholic and you should know whether the drink was pure.”
“It’s none of your business.” Darren didn’t want to bring up that.
Ethan adjusted his glasses, his sharp eyes glinting with insight. “Honestly, you’re just bringing this on yourself. If you’re not willing to separate now, why were you in such a rush to divorce back then? Vivian has been wanting to marry you for ages, and Natalie isn’t the type to always keep you by her side. Even if you didn’t push her, she would agree if you just asked. So why were you so ruthless to her six months ago?”
Darren’s expression tightened. “It’s none of your business!”

“I don’t feel like meddling. You can keep torturing yourself here, Ethan replied, getting up to leave. Before walking away, he added, “Darren, if you can’t even tell your feelings clearly, how can you expect her to understand them?”
