Chapter 22
“If Mia’s referring to the comments on the online forum, I’d already texted her back. I don’t need her concern or your consolation.” Luna shook off Russell’s hand, showing no intention of going along with him.
Russell frowned deeply. “Do you know that we’re super worried about you? We can’t do anything about the online comments. We’re so worried that you might feel hurt, and we spent the whole morning discussing how to make you feel better.
“What’s with that attitude of yours? Are you going to blame the online hate on us and see us as your enemies?”
Of course they were her enemies!
Luna glanced at him. “Russell, what do you think of me after all these years of knowing each other?”
Russell looked taken aback by the way Luna had called out his name. She seemed to have gone back to her past self!
Had she regretted her actions?
Feeling glad, he replied, “Luna, you’re a good egg. Everyone knows that. You’re obedient, thoughtful, and you study hard. We adore you!”
“Is that so?” Luna cast him an indifferent look. “I’m surprised you know me that well.”
Russell tried to pull her closer. “That’s for sure. That’s why we ordered all your favorite foods. Hurry up! Wyatt and the other guys must be impatient from all the waiting.”
“I got an extra plate of pasta here. Do you want it or not?” Rhett suddenly showed up. He stood between Russell and Luna and lowered his gaze at her.
Luna instinctively replied, “Yes.” Then, she walked over to the table Rhett pointed to. Russell pushed Rhett away. “Yo, Rhett, what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Can’t I treat my junior to lunch? Do you have comprehension issues or what?” Rhett snickered.
At that moment, Luna turned around to stare at Russell. Then, she said, “Russell, I don’t actually love salads. I prefer burgers. And I prefer linguine over spaghetti when it comes to pasta. I’m also not a fan of leek and potato soup. I like mushroom soup better!”
Kevin needed a lot of energy because he played basketball, so he mostly ordered meat for lunch. In the past, Luna would exchange her protein with the vegetables on Kevin’s plate. Ethan always ordered spaghetti because his family mostly ate that. He had never inquired about Luna’s preferences, and as time passed, everyone just assumed that she liked spaghetti
Chapter 22
Leek and potato was Wyatt’s favorite soup, but it stank. Every time he had that soup, he’d blame his foul breath on Luna, claiming that he had ordered that soup only because she did too. He said it was her fault that they both smelled bad.
Luna was left confused. Why couldn’t he just admit to liking the leek and potato soup? It wasn’t a big deal at all. Why did he have to blame it on her?
Wyatt was not an idol. He couldn’t curate an idealized image all the time, could he? It was ridiculous!
Russell watched as Luna gobbled down the plate of linguine pasta, totally ignoring his presence. He could see that she was unaffected by the online comments. Was she dead set on working under Erin?
He wanted to go over to her and question her about her change. After all, couldn’t she just enjoy a peaceful lunch with her seniors, happily calling their names, just like before? Why did she have to act like a stranger?
Anger bubbled within Russell. However, the moment he took a step forward, Rhett immediately stopped him. “Do you understand respect?”
“You’d better not poke your nose into this thing between Luna and me. Our bond is stronger than yours. Get out of my way!” Russell stared Rhett down.
But Rhett crossed his arms and refused to budge. “She’s eaten the food I bought her, so she’ll listen to me! You’ll have to line up for her time now!”
Russell was blind with rage. What nonsense was that?
But in any case, he knew very well that he had no way of making Luna leave with him. She was no longer an obedient junior at their beck and call. And now that she was working in another research team, she was Rhett’s junior, not theirs.
Suddenly, Russel felt a sense of panic set in. Quickly, he snapped around to look for Wyatt.
After that, Rhett went back and sat across from Luna.
“Hey, you ate my plate of pasta!”
