Chapter 78
Abigall didn’t answer my question. Instead, she looked at me and said, “There’s a gala, and they specifically required your attendance. So, you need to come with me.”
Her tone left no room for refusal, sounding almost like a command.
I met her gaze calmly, a faint smile on my lips as retorted, “Are you ordering me?”
Abigail laughed lightly. “I’m seeking your opinion.”
Before I could respond, she fixed her Intense gaze on me and added softly, “If you don’t want to, that’s fine; it’s your choice. But… If you want to achieve certain goals, you’ll have to pay a price.”
Her words were indirect, yet the meaning was crystal clear–if I didn’t help her, she wouldn’t be so quick to agree to the divorce.
Taking a deep breath, I coldly replied, “I can agree, but you need to meet one of my requests in
return.”
Abigail seemed taken aback by my response. Her expression was haughty as she scrutinized me, her eyes filled with contempt, as if I were nothing more than a ridiculous clown prancing before her.
Suddenly, she stood up from her chair and walked toward me, a challenging glint in her eyes as she smiled slightly.
“Samuel, you have no right to make demands.”
Her words cut deep, jolting me. I still remembered how furious I was the first time she came home late after being with another man.
Was out so 1
I had grilled her about why she and why she was with a stranger. She had come back reeking of alcohol, her gaze icy as she coldly shook her head, saying, “Samuel, you have no right to question me.”
Those words hurt me deeply. It felt like she had transformed into a stranger, ready to stab me in the chest at any moment.
Thinking back to how she had spoken to me then, I found it absurd. If she no longer loved me, why keep me around to torture each other? Her need for this kind of twisted relationship was truly disturbing.
“I have no right?”
I laughed, maintaining a cold expression as I said, “Fine, if I have no right, then go find someone who does.” With that, I turned and quickly made my way to the door.
But she grabbed my arm, blocking my path.
