Chapter 4
The day of the negotiation finally arrived, and our entire Procurement Department waited in the conference room for the suppliers to arrive. The manager asked us to check the files we’d need, and suddenly, Molly gasped.
“We’re missing an important quotation file! What are we going to do?”
Colleagues murmured in worry as I opened the files to check. The only document missing was the critical quotation file I was responsible for. I looked up and met Greyson’s gaze; he looked back at me, unperturbed.
Yesterday afternoon, I had completed a final review of the documents and found a few errors, which I’d asked Greyson to fix. After he made the corrections, he told me he’d backed up the file and sent it to everyone. Since he assured me, I hadn’t bothered with it further. Little did I know, he had been setting me up.
I closed my laptop and said, “It’s my responsibility.”
The manager frowned, “They’ll be here any moment, and there’s no time to create a new file. See if there’s a backup somewhere.”
I shook my head. Greyson had likely erased it completely.
Molly was the first to jump up and accuse me. “We’re missing such an important file, and if this negotiation falls through, it’s entirely your fault! And you’re supposed to be our supervisor?”
Her friends cast disdainful looks my way, quick to join her in blaming me.
Feigning an attempt to defend me, Greyson stood and said, “Alright, alright. They’re almost here. I’ll try to salvage the situation.”
Inside, he was thrilled; this mistake would cost me my position, and he would naturally
take over.
Amidst the rising tension, I remained perfectly calm.

“We’re in trouble–the suppliers have arrived,” a colleague said, rushing in from outside the
meeting room.
The manager looked at me and sighed.
I glanced at the doorway as the suppliers approached. The show was about to begin. Greyson exchanged a smug look with Molly. He’d instructed her to create an uproar, hoping to pressure me into resigning. Then he’d swoop in as the hero, rescuing the department.
The supplier was Japanese, and as soon as he entered, Greyson eagerly stepped forward to shake his hand, saying in English, “Apologies, but our Procurement Department is missing a quotation file today, so we may have to postpone the negotiation.“.
The supplier, looking puzzled by his English, glanced past him and walked directly over to shake my hand.
“Aurora sent me the quotation file in advance. Let’s proceed with the meeting,” he said.
The room fell silent, with Greyson and Molly frozen in disbelief.
I had already sent the files to the supplier. The way I greeted him made Greyson even more uneasy, as if we’d known each other for some time.

I invited the supplier to take his seat. In reality, he’d been introduced to me through a connection, and I’d anticipated Greyson’s sabotage, preparing for this exact scenario.
Realizing how the situation had flipped, the manager looked at me with newfound “She really is her father’s daughter,” he thought, “with quite a bit of skill.”
respect.
Greyson, humiliated and ignored, clenched his fists in silent frustration, realizing he’d been made the fool. Molly, equally furious, quietly tugged at his sleeve, whispering, “What now?”
The negotiation proceeded smoothly, with the supplier pleased with our pricing. Greyson and Molly remained silent, neither daring to look me in the eye.
As the supplier left, the manager expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s an honor for our company to collaborate with yours.”
The supplier nodded at me and replied, “It’s all thanks to Aurora. Without her reaching out, this partnership wouldn’t be happening.”

Everyone’s perspective on me shifted; they now recognized that this major deal was entirely my achievement.
After seeing the supplier off, I returned to the office. One of the girls who’d once been close to Molly came up to me and said, “Aurora, you were incredible today.”
“Yeah, yeah! Everyone’s saying it’s thanks to you that we got this deal. Honestly, I thought you were too young to be a supervisor, but now I see how capable you are.”
