Chapter 68
1 looked at the news with a calm face, betraying no emotion.
Forced to cut off donations to the hospital and pull investments because of financial trouble?
The excuses for trying to paint her in a good light were laughable. Abigail was hailed as a powerhouse in business. She was swift and unyielding. The connections and resources she had built over the years could keep her empire running for centuries. And now, in calm waters, she was claiming financial strain?
It was likely all a front; she simply didn’t want to spend her money on outsiders. After all, when she bought that brooch for Joshua, she certainly didn’t hold back.
Seeing me lost in thought, Sophia stepped over, her voice full of concern, “Samuel, don’t worry. I’ll help you figure something out.”
Only recently had I decided to re–enter this field, and suddenly, this news broke. This felt like nothing less than a warning from Abigail–a show of power.
I took a deep breath and shook my head slightly. “And what kind of solution could you…”
“I can borrow money!” she blurted out, her eyes bright with determination. Her words moved me, but at the same time, they felt hopelessly naive.
*Borrowing money… As if that could fix something this massive. I let out a small, helpless
laugh and waved her off. “Don’t be silly. I’ll handle it.”
Sophia, however, looked at me with fierce determination. “Samuel, I’m not just your employee -I’m your teammate! Don’t underestimate me. If something happens, I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
Her gaze was sincere and filled with an intensity that made it clear she wasn’t joking.
I gave her a warm smile and nodded. “Alright, I know. Thank you.”
Since it was getting late, I suggested we grab dinner together. Sophia, who rarely refused an invitation, happily agreed, and we headed to a restaurant downstairs.
Just as we walked in, I heard someone call my name.
“Samuel?”
I turned around, coming face–to–face with Blair’s surprised gaze. She was seated in a large pink SUV, looking strikingly out of place in this older part of town. I was equally surprised to see someone like her here, so I greeted her politely.
“Long time no see. What brings you to this area?
“I could ask you the same thing!” she laughed. “My grandma lives around here, and I just left

her place.”
I nodded; that made sense. The older generatiori would tend to stay in their familiar homes. It would be no small task to convince them to move
Blair gave me a curious look. “And you? What are you doing here?”
I smiled casually, “I live here.”
“Wait, what?”
For a moment, she looked at me, stunned. She eyed me up and down, shaking her head. “Did Abigail kick you out and make you stay in a place like this?”
To her, Abigail was no friend.
I chuckled bitterly. “No, I rented an apartment here.”
Blair seemed to understand and chuckled herself I thought she’d chat for a minute, then drive off, but to my surprise, she parked her car, walked over with a smile, and said, “I haven’t eaten either–mind if I join you?”
