Chapter 64
Blair started the car immediately after I settled into the passenger seat. Noticing my low spirits, she kept checking on me, chatting and cracking little jokes to lift my mood.
I was touched by her thoughtfulness, and my impression of her changed. I used to see her as a distant person, but now I could tell she valued loyalty and friendship. She was someone truly worth knowing.
When we arrived at the gala entrance, I unexpectedly got a call from Uncle Zack.
“Sam, are you free right now? I’ll come pick you up and bring a special gift.” I was taken aback. Uncle Zack had mentioned a gift before, but I hadn’t thought much of it. At this point in my life, I had no real desire for material things; 1 just wanted some peace.
But here he was bringing it up again.
I apologized, “Sorry, Uncle Zack. I’m here at the gala with Miss Blair, so it might be a bit before I can meet you.”
“A gala?” He sounded a little surprised but chuckled warmly. “Well, as it happens, the gift I have for you is at the gala, too.”
“What?” I was stunned–his gift had something to do with this event?
Emotion welled up in me, and I thanked him. “Thank you, Uncle Zack.”
“Heh, no worries; we’re family.”
Uncle Zack had always treated me like his own son, and that’s what I appreciated most about him. He didn’t tell me what the gift was, just that I’d know when I saw it. I hung up and walked
in with Blair.
The moment we stepped inside, I spotted a familiar figure. It was the renowned artist, Hanson. Jigman.
He was a legendary composer in the industry. Stars practically begged him for a song, but his work was priceless, and even the highest offer might not get them a single lyric. But this iconic figure was once my mentor. Without his guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Out of respect for him, I wanted to go greet him. But as soon as he entered, he became the absolute center of attention. I had no chance to approach him and decided to wait until things quieted down. Just as I was about to step back, I caught sight of two people I least wanted to see: Joshua and Abigail.
Abigail had organized to clear things up between her and Joshua, but they were still meeting behind the scenes.
Joshua, dressed casually in a T–shirt and jeans, wore a cap and face mask, but I recognized him.
