Chapter 15
Estelle’s voice was calm and indifferent.
“Whatever relationship you and Susan have has nothing to do with me. I’ve already signed the divorce papers. When are we finalizing it?”
“Divorce? Julian’s lips curled into a cold, amused smirk
even have the
“Estelle, for the past five years, you’ve been a full–time housewife. You’ve never worked. If you leave me, what exactly do you plan to do? Do you ev means to support yourself? And let’s not forget Tobias. He’ll never be under your care.
“Even if you take this to court, you have no job and no income. You wouldn’t stand a chance of winning custody, Estelle, a smart woman knows when to stop. Push
too for, and you’ll only make things worse for yourself.”
A cold numbness spread through Estelle’s heart.
All these years, she had poured everything into this family. There was no gratitude for her sacrifices. Instead, this family had become her biggest weakness- something to be used against her.
Even Tobias, the child she had raised since birth, resented her.
As a person, she was such a fallure.
Estelle locked eyes with Julian and uttered word by word, “No job and income? Before I had Tobias, I had a respectable career and a good salary. You were the one who said a nanny couldn’t be trusted to raise him. You were the one who told me to quit my job and stay home.”
Julian’s brows furrowed slightly. “And what exactly did that salary of yours amount to? You were better off staying home and taking care of Tobias.”
Estelle clenched her fists. “You’re right. I never could make millions like you, but I did eam enough to support myself! At the very least, I wouldn’t have to endure your family calling me a parasite. I wouldn’t have to listen to your friends mockme, calling me a housewife who lives off her husband!”
How ironic. She had given up her dream job for her family and her child. She had made the bigger sacrifice. And in the end, she was the one being looked down on
Julian frowned. “Estelle, since when did you start caring so much about what others think? Besides, Zach and the others never meant any hum.”
Never meant any harm?
If Susan’s malice was subtle, then Zachary’s was blatant. It was written all over his face. And yet, Julian could still claim that Zachary meant no harm, all while taking it in for himsell. Was he blind?
Estelle suddenly let out a soft chuckde. “You seem so noble, so above it all, completely unaffected by what people say. But it that’s true, why are you so bothered by what i said to Susan? Mr. Grant, why must you be so angry? I have no malicious intent toward Ms. Lynch. I was just joking..”
Julian’s expression turned unreadable, the coldness in his eyes deepening. “Estelle, do you have to keep pushing like this?”
When pain was endured long enough, it eventually turned into numbness.
Cute, his words had cut her to the bone. But now, they barely hurt anyinote.
Estelle’s gaze was unwavering, firmer than it had ever been. “julian, I’m divorcing you!”
For a moment, something flickered in Julian’s expression, but it was gone as quickly as it came “Fine, remember what you told me today. Just don’t come crawling back in tears when you regret this.”
Esteliz sneered, “Don’t worry, Mr. Grant. That day will never come.
“Mrs. Grant, you should know better than to make absolute statements. Always leave yourself a way
Estelle lifted her head, meeting his eyes directly. She smiled. “You’re right, but you were never my way out to begin with.”
