Chapter 9
Quina
She wore a straight peach gown that perfectly carved out her shape, it was designed with stones and pearls and it glittered in the light.
es while she chatted and laughed
She looked like a goddess. Her wavy hair draped down her shoulders and occasionally covered the side of her eyes with some guests.
I don’t know if it was the realization of seeing her after such a long time or the fact that I’d eventually face her at the party. I don’t know what it was but it made my throat really dry
I quickly gulped down the content of the cup and placed it on another tray but before I would turn to leave, two of the guests who were chatting beside me suddenly paused and looked in my direction.
“Oh my God! Isn’t that Quinn Winfrey? The first exclaimed
“Yes it is the second affirmed and I paused, unsure of what reply to give.
“Whoa, what is he doing here?” The first said again
“He must be here for his ex–wife’s housewarming party. He was married to Anastasia but they got divorced three years ago.” The second informed and I felt a sting in my heart.
It was as though the other guests around were waiting for the second lady to speak about the divorce, they all turned towards me and their voices echoed as they all spoke in surprise about seeing me at the occasion
was no wonder that they were surprised of my visit as I don’t attend such occasions with the caliber of people that were around.
I was usually at gals, hosting conventions, and other big events not some backyard party in an average neighbourhood.
With a bright smile, I turned around and walked away from the crowd that had taken interest in my presence.
I wanted Ana to see me but not like this. Not with everyone’s eyes on me while they were talking about our divorce.
I picked up another glass from a tray and trailed Ana with my eyes one more time
She was sull chatting and laughing heartily with her guests but they seemed familiar.
With a squint, I looked intently at them more more time and discovered that I knew them indeed.
One of the men was Terry, my college mate who I’d never gotten along with and the remain two men were Mr. Roberts and his assistant.
What I couldn’t stop thinking about was how Anastasia got to know these men and why they were at the party.
From the way Terry stood beside her, they seemed really close
“Were they married? Did she marry Terry after our divorce? These thoughts greatly disturbed me.
Anger churned in my stomach and I gulped the contents of the glass in one go again.
ser you came.” I grutle voice called out behind me and I turned to meet Grandina Mira holding a glass in her hand.
“Thank you for inviting nue. How have you been?” I asked the woman who greeted me with mild smiles.
“Never been better. How’s the mansion?” she asked out of the blue and I felt a lump in my throat as I opened my mouth to reply her.

I dropped the glass and pocketed my hands as I made my way out of the crowd
er side of the mansion.
“Oh, Mr. Quinn, you’re here as well. Did you come to see her too?” A familiar voice spoke, making me to raise my head and I found Robert staring at me with excitement.
“Who?” I asked with an arched brow,
“Anastasia of course! Hearing her name from his mouth made me grit my teeth
was here and why he was speaking with her earlier but I’d be overstepping of I did that.
I wanted to ask him why y he was
“You know, she’s the one I told you would be working with us for the project, I heard she’s really good. He chimed happily.
Mr. Roberts wanted us to organise a big conference for him and when I stated what his contract with us will cover, he told me to leave out some aspects that he already has someone who’d do that but I had no idea it would be Ana
“Don’t worry Mr. Quinn, you’ll meet her very soon. Enjoy the rest of your evening He said before walking away.

I came to a stop when I saw a small garden beside the mansion. From the toys that Layed around, it looked like a play house but I didn’t thi of it unnl a soft ball hit my leg.
From my experience in playing soccer, 1 quickly stopped the ball from rolling away and pressed it with my leg while I searched for who fred the shot.
A small boy ran out of the garden and I knew without a doubt that it was his ball.
“Looking for this?” I asked with a smile as I removed my leg from the ball.
“Yes, thank you” He made to pick the ball but I
stopped him with a hand.
“You know it’s late to play with this tonight, plus there are guests everywhere” His face fell at my words and his shoulders stooped low.
I couldn’t be a kill joy tonight. Perhaps, I needed a little bit of fun as well.
“Except, we play this together in the garden.” I said and his face lightened up immediately and he jumped with excitement.
“Let’s go! Come get this?” I started, making my way to the garden while he followed behind.
