Chapter 21: Not Caring Anymore
“There’s no special drink at home–would bottled water be alright?” Chloe asked.
“Of course,” Wyatt replied.
Living alone, Chloe didn’t keep many supplies around, so she just offered what she had. Wyatt, being easygoing, accepted it all without complaint.
Chloe had planned a decent meal for herself tonight, and though she didn’t someone to share dinner with was a hice surprise. Eating with someone wa

“I noticed you made a mistake on one of your practice questions earlier,” Wyatt mentioned casually. “That particular question probably gave you some trouble since it involves a bit of physics.”
Chloe smiled sheepishly. She had indeed been doing a lot of practice problems earlier in the day, and though she hadn’t had time to review them yet, it seemed Wyatt had already glanced through her work. She knew which question he was referring to–it had been tricky for her.
“I’m a bit of a whiz at most subjects, but physics isn’t exactly my strong suit, so I wasn’t surprised I got
that one wrong.”
Wyatt nodded and then, after a brief pause, proceeded to explain the problem to her in a clear and simple way, breaking it down with ease.
As he explained, Chloe’s eyes lit up. The concept clicked in her mind, and she couldn’t help but laugh softly. The gap between her and Wyatt in terms of intelligence was evident–he was on a whole different level. What had seemed so complicated to her, Wyatt had unraveled in just a few short sentences.
“So, that’s how it works! I guess I overthought the problem. Thanks a lot, professor.”
Wyatt was a little surprised by how quickly she understood the explanation. The problem wasn’t exactly easy, but Chloe had grasped it almost instantly.
“Seems like you’re even smarter than I gave you credit for,” Wyatt praised her without hesitation.
Chloe, a little embarrassed, admitted, “Actually, I had already seen something similar in the research notes you mentioned before. I remembered some of the foundational theory from it, so when you explained it, it made sense right away.”
“Oh, you mean those old research notes from the library?” Wyatt scratched his head, looking a bit embarrassed. “Those notes are full of typos, and they’re pretty old now.”
Despite being a genius, Wyatt still looked a bit awkward when his past work was mentioned. Chloe couldn’t help but laugh. The notes not only had typos, but they were also written in a laid–back style. No wonder Wyatt was a little embarrassed.
“You’re really impressive. I’m sure you’ll do great on your graduate exam,” Wyatt said with confidence.
“That’s good to hear. Thank you for the encouragement,” Chloe responded with a smile.
When Julian and Adam finally left the mall, the sky had already grown dark. Adam glanced at the bags Julian was holding–luxury jewelry that amounted to a hefty seven–figure sum. Julian carried the bags so openly that Adam wondered if he was too confident in the local security or if he just wanted to show off.
Though they both knew the implications, they didn’t encounter anyone familiar along the way.

“It’s getting late. How about we grab something to eat? I’m starving,” Adam suggested, scanning the area for a nearby restaurant. He was genuinely hungry and ready to eat at the first place he could find.
They found a restaurant, sat down, and Adam ordered a lot of food, while Julian barely showed any interest, letting Adam do all the ordering. Julian’s mind was elsewhere, his thoughts swirling around what had happened earlier at the mall.
From the moment he had seen Chloe, she hadn’t acknowledged him. Not once had she given him a second glance. She had treated him as if he were invisible, something that had never happened before. Even during their worst arguments, she had never ignored him like this.
It stung, and Julian couldn’t shake the feeling.
“She’s never ignored me like that before,” he muttered to himself, lighting a cigarette, his frustration.
evident.
Adam, trying to lighten the mood, said, “Hey, don’t think too much about it. Chloe’s angry, and that’s understandable. Just give her some time. She’ll calm down eventually. Then, when the time is right, you can apologize, and she’ll forgive you like she always does.”
Julian scoffed, “I don’t need your advice, Adam.”
“Okay, fine, I’ll shut up then,” Adam replied with a shrug. He had learned that arguing with Julian when he was in this mood never ended well.
Halfway through their meal, Julian’s phone buzzed with a new message. A photo popped up on the screen -it was Chloe, standing close to none other than Joshua. Though the photo was blurry and clearly taken from a distance, the two looked unusually intimate.
Seeing the image, Julian’s expression darkened. His mood shifted from frustration to cold anger. Adam, noticing the change, asked cautiously, “What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? You said we’d reconcile eventually, right? Well, look at this! Tell me how we’re supposed to make up now?” Julian spat, showing Adam the photo of Chloe and Joshua.
Joshua had once been his rival for Chloe’s affection, and now, it seemed Chloe had gone straight back to him. Julian’s eyes burned with fury–was she really going to disrespect him like this?
Looking at the photo, Adam sighed. He had known about their past rivalry, but now it seemed things were even more complicated.
Julian clenched his phone in frustration, a cold smile creeping across his face. “She’s nothing to me anymore,” he said bitterly, but the anger in his voice betrayed his true feelings.
