Chapter 51 

“What do you mean leave!” Silas asked, and I finally realized what it sounded like to him. 

“I didn’t mean it that way, I just meant that I wanted to start going for classes. Chase a degree,” 

I’ve been indoors since I got here and it’s starting to be boring. 

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I wasn’t sure what is reply would be, but I had to try. 

“I want to go to school.” 

He stared at me for a moment, as if he didn’t quite understand what I’d just said. 

Then, slowly, he shook his head, a small, humorless smile tugging at his lips. 

My brows furrowed in confusion on why he was laughing and then his reply came. 

“No,” he said simply as if it wasn’t even up for discussion. 

1 blinked, taken aback by how easily he dismissed me. 

“What do you mean, no? I need this, Silas. I can’t just stay here. locked away like some… prisoner,” I said matter of factly, expecting him to understand me. 

I couldn’t remain in this house for the rest of my life, I needed to do something for myself. 

My fists clenched by my side and I stared at him, nose flaring. J. 

He couldn’t take this away from me. 

“You are a prisoner,” he replied bluntly, his gaze unwavering. “You forget your place, Katrina.” 

What? 

Anger flared inside me. “You can’t keep me here forever! I deserve a life, too. You promised things would be different, and yet here I am stuck, while you get to do whatever you want.” 

“I did? When did I promise things would be different? I never accepted your father’s offer for you to replace my daughter Katrina. So tell me. He asked, folding his arms and leaving against his chair. 

And he was right. 

My fists clenched and unclenched, words failing to leave my lips. 

But I needed this. 

“Well. What use am I going to be to you if I remain indoors for the rest of my life?” I asked, brow coming up. 

No one said I was

I have no issues using his money all my life, but I needed to do something for myself. 

Silas let out a slow sigh, rubbing his forehead as if I was giving him a headache. 

“If you’re that desperate for an education, you can take online classes. That is my offer.”

An online lesson? What was I supposed to do with that? He sounded as if he was doing me a favor.

The main point of me wanting to go to a university was that I wanted to know how it would feel to be outside with no one to 

stress me. 

And a university was my best option. 

My fists clenched at my sides. “Online classes? That’s not the same, and you know it. I want to go out, be in a real environment, interact with people. I want- 

“I said no.” Silas cut in, his voice sharp now. He leaned forward, his elbows resting on the desk, eyes narrowing. 

“And that’s final.” 

My chest tightened, but I refused to back down. “I’m serious, Silas. I can’t do this anymore. You don’t get to control every part of my life,” 

Why didn’t he understand that? 

I couldn’t stay locked up like some sort of prisoner. It was unfair 

He raised an eyebrow, a flicker of amusement crossing his face. 

“And you think that’s going to change if you throw a tantrum? You need to understand your position.” 

And that position was thay I was going to be beneath him. 

His tone, the intensity of his stare on me and even his body movements angered me to the core. 

“Position? Is that all this is to you? A game of power?” I shot back, frustration boiling over. 

“I’m not just a pawn. I’m a person, with dreams and desires!” 

And yhe sooner he understands that, thr better.

He leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms, the look in his eyes shifting to something darker. 

“You talk about dreams, but you’re living in a fantasy. You’re not going to walk out that door and enroll in classes like you think you can. You belong to me, and that means you do as I say 

I swallowed hard, the weight of his words pressing down on me “You don’t get to decide what I can or can’t do with my life, Silas. I want to experience life outside these walls, to be more than just your wife or a prisoner in your home.” 

His expression hardened, and the atmosphere in the room shifted. “I make the rules here, Katrine. You’re not in a position to negotiate.” 

“Then what if I told you I’d do anything for you! Anything to get out of this situation?” The words slipped out before I could think, desperation fueling my courage. 

But I wasn’t lying, would do anything at this point to get what I wanted. 

Silas’s eyes glinted at my admisston. His lips pulling into a dangerous smile. “Anything? That’s a bold claim.”

I nodded, my heart racing, even as I felt a chill run down my spine at the way he regarded me. 

“Yes. I’m serious. Just give me a chance to show you I can handle it.” 

He stood up slowly, closing the distance between us and the air in the room thickened 

“Very well, then. If you’re willing to do anything, let’s see just how far you’re willing to go.”
