Chapter 49
“Ah… I’m sorry, Ms. Shepherd. I didn’t mean it like that.”
I quickly slipped into the passenger seat and offered an apology after realizing that Blair had misunderstood me.
“There’s no need to be so nervous. It was just a joke.” She smiled softly after seeing that I was taking her seriously. Her gaze toward me was filled with a hint of appraisal and scrutiny.
‘Aren’t you curious about how I learn about you?” she asked after starting the car.
I let out a self–deprecating smile. “It must be through those baseless rumors floating around online, right?”
The words slipped out of my mouth, leaving me momentarily stunned.
Baseless? Those weren’t exactly unfounded rumors. After all, Abigail had indeed been with many men, and it was also true that we were getting a divorce.
What remained between us was only her torment and disdain toward me.
She refused to divorce me only because she wanted to keep me by her side so that she could humiliate and degrade me!
Blair and I ordered two cups of coffee and sat by the window once we reached the café.
She shared her ideas for the song’s overall requirement and direction.
I composed a simple melody with a mobile application before writing two versions of lyrics
based on it.
After reviewing my work, Blair was greatly astonished by my talent and ear for music.
She complimented me repeatedly and exclaimed, “Mr. Gebb, you’re such a remarkable talent. You’re able to compose an entire song in just ten minutes. This is the first time I’ve ever met someone like you!”
Her eyes sparkled as she looked at me emotionally and continued to sing my praises, so much that my face flushed as I smiled shyly.
“This is just a rough draft. I’ll send them to you so that you can see which one you prefer.” I opened my phone and added her contact information before sending it to her.
“I’ll go home and finish the full version for you once you decide. How does that sound?”
“Sounds perfect!” Blair agreed without hesitation. She shook my hand and got up as she said, Where are you headed? I can give you a ride.”
“No, it’s alright.” I smiled politely and waved her off. “I’d like to wander around the area a bit.

Please, go ahead with your errands.”
“Alright. See you next time.” With that, she turned around and left.
I watched her retreating figure before I walked out of the café and wandered around the area.
I felt a hollow emptiness within me regardless of the vastness of the world around me.
Suddenly, someone seized my wrist firmly.
I was still recovering from the surgery. George had warned me not to strain my abdominal wound and advised me to be cautious with every movement.
The sudden grip threw me off balance in my weakened state. I stumbled and fell heavily to the ground.
It felt like the stitches had torn open, and I gasped from the pain.
I lifted my gaze and saw Abigail looking at me with a hint of guilt and concern as she asked, “A -Are you alright?”
“Thanks to you, things couldn’t be worse.” With that, I forced myself to get up and turned around to leave.
She shed her earlier guilt and self–blame as she stood before me with a cold expression and scolded, displeased, “Is your mind constantly occupied with thoughts of leaving me?”
“Isn’t that you?” I laughed. My eyes were filled with disdain. “You keep bringing one man after another into our home. Aren’t you enjoying yourself? What’s the point of questioning me here now?”
She was stunned, seemingly not expecting me to say that.
Her tone suddenly softened. She glanced at me faintly and shook her head. “I won’t let you go.
