Chapter 47
Joshua’s words were a thinly veiled jab at Abigail. It obviously implied that there was something inappropriate between me and Blair.
My expression hardened, and I snapped, “Watch your words!”
However, Joshua feigned innocence. He shook his head as he clutched Abigail’s hand and choked out, “Did I say something wrong to make Samuel upset, Abigail? Why is he suddenly angry at me? I don’t know what I did…”
Joshua excelled at playing the victim. With his youthful, handsome looks and innocent demeanor, he was doing a masterful job of winning Abigail’s sympathy.
Sure enough, I could see the concern in her eyes as she shielded him with her body. She glared at me, her expression cold and disapproving.
“Why are you taking your anger out on Joshua for no reason? He’s just worried he will get in the way of your work. Was it necessary to snap at him like that?”
I was at a loss for words.
Taking out my anger on Joshua for no reason? Didn’t she understand the implications behind his words?
Joshua had belittled me with his little act, and she was playing the fool and defending him. But no matter how much she defended Joshua, it was none of my business anymore.
Just then, Blair stepped out. She gazed gently at Abigail, but I noticed a flash of displeasure in her
eyes when she looked at Joshua.
However, it was gone as quickly as it appeared.
Blair was skilled at hiding her emotions. Even though she was angry at the insinuations thrown, she managed to smile at Abigail and said, “We’re just working on a project together, Abigail. There’s no need to make things so tense.
“I don’t have time to bother about your personal affairs, but I do expect your people to show me respect. After all, I called Mr. Gebb here to compose lyrics for me, not to create some sort of romantic entanglement.”
Abigail was left speechless at Blair’s words, and her brows furrowed as she turned back to Joshua.
I stared at Blair in surprise. I didn’t expect her to recognize me, much less to call my name so accurately.
However, the thought faded quickly. Given how public my issues with Abigail had become, it wasn’t such a surprise. Plus, with Joshua being a rising star in the industry, the news had likely

spread even if his fame was still modest.
With everything spreading online, people around Abigail probably knew all about me–her pathetic husband who still didn’t dare to divorce her even though she was keeping another man by her side.
The air around us was so quiet that it was almost unsettling.

Feeling awkward, I quickly walked over to Blair and pulled out my notebook. “Hello, Ms. Shepherd. When would you like to start? Just let me know if you have any specific requests for the lyrics or melody.”
However, behind me, Abigail grabbed my arm in a tight grip. She was frowning deeply, and she asked coldly, “Do you need to humiliate me like this, Samuel?”
“Humiliate you?” I looked at Abigail in disbelief, not understanding why she would say that to me. “Abigail, you need to take responsibility for what you say. When have I ever humiliated you?”
At my words, Abigail’s expression hardened. Her voice was tinged with annoyance as she replied, “Who allowed you to work? You’re supposed to take care of things at home. You don’t need to worry about making money.”
Her words crushed my pride effortlessly. It was as if I were condemned to live my life as a househusband, stuck at home with no right to face the world.
