Chapter 44
I had long grown accustomed to Abigail’s fickleness and her biting sarcasm, and I didn’t want to waste any more time on her.
Abigail looked genuinely shocked by my words. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she retorted, ” What? You think being married to me is a form of torture?”
I laughed dryly and gave her a mocking smile. “Isn’t it? It’s been so many years, and we’ve reached a point where we can’t stand the sight of each other. I think it’s time we acknowledge
that we don’t need to continue this charade.”
My brief statement drained the color from Abigail’s face, and she looked as white as a ghost.
She took a deep breath and coldly said, “Do you think you have the right to say that to me, Samuel? Have you forgotten how you heartlessly abandoned me back then?”
She smiled bitterly and continued in a chilling tone, “I was on my knees, begging you not to leave me. But what did you do? You chose to abandon me and went abroad to study while I was at my lowest.”
Abigail’s eyes reddened as she spoke, and her gaze burned with anger directed at me.
“Back then, it felt like my heart had been ripped out, and I couldn’t breathe… And now, you want to escape all that pain and get a divorce without a care in the world?”
Abigail laughed. “I’ll tell you right now. That’s impossible! You’ll never be able to leave me, so don’t even dream about it. You can’t escape the torment I have for you in this lifetime!”
The more she spoke, the more venomous her words became. Her eyes were practically glowing with rage.
I stared at her in shock. It was as if I was looking at a completely different person before me.
The reason I chose to leave her back then was to help her. But now, everything seemed utterly
pointless.
I didn’t want to dwell on the past anymore. After all, we were already at this juncture. What good would it do to keep talking about it?
“Your company is now one of the top in the country, Abigail. The resources you control are the stuff of dreams for others in the industry.
“You’ve gotten everything you wanted. Are you still not satisfied? Must you make things so absolute?”
I spoke with a calmness that belied the storm brewing beneath the surface.
Abigail’s heart raced at my words, and I could see the panic flicker across her features. She realized that I wasn’t joking and that I was speaking from the heart.

After a moment, she looked up again, her expression icy as she glared at me. She gritted her teeth, then spat in a low and venomous voice, “Shut up! What does my current success have to do with you? What right do you have to question me?
“You’re nothing but a selfish jerk, Samuel Gebb! You have no right to say any of these things!”
Her breathing was heavy from anger, and her eyes were dark with fury. She looked coldly at me and said, “I told you that I won’t let you go. Not unless you’re dead!”
She bit out the last line through clenched teeth.
I looked at her and chuckled. “Is that so? Well, it seems that your dream is about to come true.”
Abigail’s expression abruptly faltered. She bit her pale lip and shot me an icy glare as she shook her head. “I’ll never let you die, Samuel! I’ve already contacted the best doctors overseas to treat your illness!”
Her eyes swept over me with an unsettling calmness as she continued in a serious tone,
Without my permission, you’re absolutely not allowed to die!”
