Chapter 34
“I…” Abigail’s eyes reddened as she hesitated and didn’t know what to say.
“Just leave. There’s nothing to talk about between us.” I waved my hand and urged her to quickly leave.
She didn’t want to leave. Instead, she walked toward my bed and said, “I didn’t know if you were telling the truth or not. I only found out about the news of your surgery on television, so
1…”
I let out a dry laugh and said, “So you still don’t believe me. What’s the point of explaining all this to me?”
With a cold expression, Sophia said, “Abigail, there’s no point for you to stay here. Samuel needs a good rest. Could you bear to stay here and disturb him?”
Abigail was rendered speechless by Sophia’s mockery.
Feeling dejected, Abigail turned around and was about to leave when she saw a nurse walking toward my ward anxiously.
“Is Mr. Gebb’s family here?”
When Abigail heard the nurse’s words, she subconsciously raised her hand and responded, ”
I’m Samuel’s wife.”
I looked at Abigail in surprise. I didn’t expect her to tell others about our relationship. She hated to admit that I was her husband in front of others. I wondered what got into her today.
The nurse was surprised when she heard Abigail’s words.
She couldn’t help but scoff. Then, she gently shook her head and said, “The family member of Mr. Gebb that I know is the lady who goes by the last name, Smith. Where did you come from? When the patient was undergoing a surgery, you didn’t even want to come and sign the
consent form.”
The nurse didn’t show any mercy to Abigail. After she said those things to her, Abigail was
ashamed of herself.
“Fortunately, Ms. Smith was decisive when she signed the consent form and didn’t delay the patient’s surgery. Otherwise, do you think you can just stand here and claim that you are the patient’s wife?”
Abigail was speechless. She stood where she was like a child who had made a mistake.
I calmly glanced at Abigail with a stoic face. I wondered who she was trying to fool with this
facade. Was it for me? Did she think that I did all this just to win her back??
When Kayla’s life was in danger, she didn’t even want to give me a single penny. She just stood by and let Kayla’s health deteriorate until she died.
Although Kayla had saved Abigail’s life, Abigail would rather spend tens of thousands of dollars to buy a brooch for Joshua. She didn’t even mention anything about Kayla and never thought that she did anything wrong. How could someone like that be worthy of my love?
The nurse didn’t say anything more. Instead, she waved at Sophia, signaling Sophia to follow
her.
For the time being, it was just Abigail and me in the ward.
“Samuel, I…” Abigail was about to explain when I heard her phone vibrating. She looked at the caller ID and hurriedly answered the call. She asked, “What is it, Joshua?”
It was Joshua again.
I sneered and gave Abigail a sarcastic look. I wondered if she was the same person who claimed to be my wife.
“What did you just say? How did you hurt yourself? Don’t worry. I’m coming!” Abigail was nervous as she subconsciously clenched her fist.
After being with her for so long, I knew her very well. She cared deeply for Joshua, so much that she wouldn’t let his call go unanswered for even a minute.
After she hung up, she said apologetically, “I’m sorry, Samuel…”
