Chapter 31
Ever since the surgery was confirmed, Sophia had been more anxious than me. She stayed by
side every day and focused on preparing different delicious food for me.

Although I didn’t have much of an appetite, I managed to eat quite a bit of the food she made.
In order to make me less nervous, George made an exception and let me walk around to take my mind off things.
I would sit on the swing at the hospital’s backyard every day, watching the distant scenery and counting the days until the day of surgery.
Sophia bought me a cactus on the day of my surgery and placed it on my bedside table.
She smiled brightly and said, “I hope you will be as resilient as this cactus and continue to live.
I grinned and nodded as I happily accepted her kind wishes.
I quickly lost my consciousness as I lay on the operating table.
While I was in a dreamlike state, I seemed to have returned to my college days, where I met Abigail for the first time.
Back then, she was beautiful and innocent. Her eyes were bright too.
I was deeply smitten with her from the moment I saw her.
After my relentless pursuits, she agreed to be my girlfriend. We became the perfect couple that everyone envied in college.
After we got married, the endless arguments between me and Abigail began.
Not only did she often bring men home, but she also acted like I didn’t exist and treated me
like a slave.
From that moment on, I didn’t have any feelings for Abigail anymore.
She was a stranger to me now. However, she kept pestering me and didn’t want to let me go.
Suddenly, my heart began to hurt so badly. I could clearly feel the sweat trickling down my
cheeks.
My consciousness was slowly fading away. I could feel that I was dying.
I heard people cry out in alarm. It seemed that a lot of people were running frantically.
I was calm and wasn’t fearful that I was about to die. On the contrary, I felt that death would
be a relief for me.
Outside the door, Sophia looked terrified as she anxiously grasped George’s arm. With a trembling voice, she asked, “What’s happening to Samuel? Why does the readings on the monitor look unstable?”

George was so nervous that he was sweating profusely. He said anxiously, “Hurry up and contact Abigail!”
“Abigail?” Sophia was shocked. Feeling uneasy, she asked, “Why do I need to contact her?”
George was breathing heavily as he said anxiously, “Samuel’s life is in danger. We need his family to come and sign the consent form in person. Neither you nor I could do that.”
Sophia panicked. During this critical moment, she could only call Abigail.
However, Abigail hung up on her mercilessly the moment she called her. Sophia was so anxious that her eyes reddened, and she almost began to cry.
Sophia didn’t give up and called Abigail again. Abigail frowned and answered the call.
“What do you want?” Abigail sounded displeased.
Sophia quit her job after Abigail and her had a fall out. Now that Sophia was calling again, it was natural for Abigail to feel annoyed.
With a trembling voice, Sophia said nervously, “Abigail, could you come to the hospital? Samuel’s life is in danger, and the hospital’s management requires a family member with legal ties to sign the consent form in person…”
On the other end of the phone, Abigail asked in confusion, “His life is in danger?”
