Chapter 25
I didn’t say anything further, just watched Abigail with a calm expression.
On the other hand, she was trembling with rage, her face pale as a sheet.
Just then, the door to the hospital room swung open, and Sophia walked in, carrying a
thermos and some fresh fruit.
As soon as her eyes met Abigail’s, Sophia’s expression grew nervous, a hint of guilt flashing
across her face.
Abigail frowned, clearly irritated, “What are you doing here?”
“I…” Sophia stammered, looking visibly unsettled.
She stood there, shifting uncomfortably, unsure of how to explain herself. After all, I was still legally Abigail’s husband.
What would it look like for an “outsider” to be taking such devoted care of me?
Furious, Abigail stormed over to Sophia, grabbed her by the throat, and shoved her roughly against the door.
Her entire body shook with anger as she glared at Sophia, her voice dripping with venom. Sophia, don’t think I don’t know what’s going on in that little head of yours! Let me warn you. Whatever ideas you have, you’d better get rid of them now. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next!”
In her fury, Abigail’s possessive nature blazed to the surface.
She clenched her jaw, practically spitting out the threat as if she’d have no hesitation in removing” Sophia if she dared to have any feelings for me.
“Abigail, let her go!” I snapped, frowning at Abigail, feeling a deep, growing disgust at her
behavior.
Only then did she release Sophia, who collapsed to the floor, clutching her neck and gasping
for air.
To Abigail, it was as if I were nothing more than a pawn she could humiliate at will. She couldn’t stand anyone showing me the slightest kindness.
“Abigail, even if you kill me, I won’t be afraid of you.‘
Sophia shakily got to her feet, leaning against the doorframe as she gathered the scattered items from the floor. Her expression was calm as she looked Abigail in the eye.
“Samuel is seriously ill. If you can’t bring yourself to care for him or look after him, what right do you have to stop others from doing so?”
Abigail fell silent, visibly taken aback by the question. She stared at Sophia, momentarily at a loss for words.
I pointed to the door, my voice cold. “You can leave. Nobody here wants you around.”

Abigail let out a scornful laugh, her eyes filled with mockery. “Samuel, you’re really something, aren’t you? Do you ever tell me the truth about anything?
“This whole act of pretending to be sick and staying in the hospital… Isn’t it all just to get my attention? To make me worry about you? And now that I’m here, you put on this indifferent act. Don’t you see how pathetic you look?”
I turned my gaze toward the window, unwilling to waste another word on her.
If she wanted to believe I was faking it, then let her.
I was a dying man. My time was better spent savoring whatever days I had left, treating each one as my last, leaving no room for regrets.
There was no point wasting my life on arguments with people who didn’t matter.
Sophia couldn’t hold back any longer. She clenched her jaw and shouted, “Abigail, Samuel is gravely ill. He’s dying! Can’t you show him a little kindness?”
“What? He’s dying?” Abigail glanced at me in surprise, then scoffed and shook her head with a bitter laugh. “And you believe that? Coming from someone who lies through his teeth?”
