Chapter 60
Entica’s words struck Miguel like a bolt of lighting. He didn’t love her. Their relationship had always been a matter of convenience, and even the beautiful numents she remembered had just been part of the act.
The woman he loved was sitting right next to him. He was disgusted by Enrica. When they divorced, he had felt relieved.
He had never loved her, but for some reason–suewhere in his heart–it ached when Entica said those words, trembling, and her eyes red–rimmed
Was it possible that he loved Entica? That made no sense.
Sheila, watching his dazed expression, bit her lip and asked softly, “Miguel, was it something Enrica said? She went too far, saying all that in front of everyone. Thut was so unfair to you. How were you supposed to respond?“.
Her words seemed to shake something loose in Miguel’s mind. Sheila was right. He wasn’t heartbroken–he was humiliated. Enrica had just embarrassed him in front of all these people. That was all this was. The woman he loved was Shella. Someone like Enrica had no power to affect his emotions.
He looked into Sheila’s concerned eyes, smiled faintly, and leaned over to kiss her cheek. “Torget it. I’m not going to stoop to her level. I’ve got you. That’s more than enough”
Sheila blushed, lowering her head shyly. “I love you too, Miguel.”
Miguel’s heart swelled with affection
Just then, Rosana stood up. “Hey, I’ve got something to take care of. I’m heading out. You and Sheila have fun, okay?”
Miguel didn’t think much of it. “Be safe.”
nur Sheila’s gaze lingered on Rohana’s retreating figure.
Enrica stumbled out to the entrance of the club, raising a hand to flag down a cab. Her body was heating up fast, her legs unsteady. Then her phone rang
she answered wealdy, “Hello?”
There was a pause on the other end, then a familiar voice. Colin asked in a warm and concerned tone, “Enrica, how are things going? Did you find your dad?”
It took her a moment to remember. Colin had dropped her off earlier, She forced herself to stay alert and replied faintly, “Yeah, I found him. Thank you, Mr. BOUL”
Cofin brushed off the thards. His voice grew even more gentle. “Where are you now? If you’re heading back to the office, I can swing by and pick you up.”
Enrica knew she couldn’t go back to work looking like this. She had already made up her mind to go straight to the hospital. Whether it was to get her stomach pumped or receive treatment, they would know what to do.
So she declined politely, “It’s okay. I’ll manage-
You’ll affect our
bot Colin cut her off firmly, “Enrica, you don’t have to be so polite with me. I’m your supervisor, Caring about your well–being is part of my job. You’ll at tran’s performance, and honestly, you don’t sound okay. If you need help, please don’t hesitate. Just say the word.”
Entica jelt touched inside After some thought, she decided I was risky to get into a cab with a stranger. Calin might only be a colleague, but at least she knew him.
Air hesitated, then asked, “Where are you?
“I’m on Crosby Street,” he replied
That was close–only three blocks away.
She gave him, her location, thanked lilim again, and hung up, finally able to relax a little.
By then, the heat had reached her face. Her labs felt boneless, and she could barely stand on her own. She leaned against a pillar near the entrance, using the cool surface to pround herself and fight of the overwhelming wave of heat flooding her body.
