Chapter 49
Thinking about it reminded me of the Froste I’d known over the years. The kind, loving and sweet Froste who would do anything to make me happy.
I love you now, I love you then, and I love you always.[]
He would say those words to me at any chance he got, wanting to let me know just how much he truly cared about me.]
No matter how much I cherished those memories with him, it didn’t change the fact that he had failed to trust me when I needed him the most. He threw me under the bus without a second thought.[]
He did that to me without a single sliver of remorse. And I was just supposed to forgive and get over it like that.[]
How could you do something like that?!
I could never forget that day. The day he chose to believe his mother over me. He’d made it pretty clear that when push
came to shove, he would choose her.
As much as I wanted to believe I wasn’t bothered by that anymore, it was something that ate at my mind whenever I thought about it.
My chest hurt every time I had to stomach the thought that Froste had failed to trust me at the moment when I needed him the most.]
I let out a sigh and looked at Agnrs. “No, I don’t know him.“[]
She seemed a bit surprised by my answer but she eventually nodded her head. I turned away from her, unable to meet her gaze anymore.
It was like my heart burned even more, every time I thought of Froste. He had been my world once upon a time, and the thought that I could never go back to that moment hurt me more than anything.
After a while, Froste came from the other side of the room, followed by Askhan and the middle aged man. There was another person with them. A young man.[]
The more I stared at him, the more I was hit with an odd sense of familiarity. It was like I’d known him even though I couldn’t quite put a sense on it.]
Then his scent hit me like a tidal wave. I could feel it. I knew him. I had to. The man made his way to the center of the room and stood before the microphone. He looked through the crowd for a moment before he started to speak.
“There was an error in the score tally.“]
The room was filled with murmurs of surprise. The man went on with what he’d been saying. []
“Princess Adella was on the list.” He said.[]
“That’s so uncritical!” Someone yelled from the crowd.[]
“Yeah,” Another person agreed. “Who are you to promulgate such news?”
Chapter 49
The man’s gaze landed on me and he smiled slightly. I felt a warmth fill my whole body. He turned back to face the crowd.]
“I’m Cyrus, the recently appointed assistant to the Elder of the Royal Academy.“[
The crowd was stunned as they took in Cyrus words. I couldn’t help but stare at him. There was a certain warmth about him that seemed to drag all my attention in, forcing me to look in his direction and drawing me to him.
The first to get over her shock was Tina. She yelled out in anger. “This is not fair!“]
Cyrus cocked his head to the side. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” She folded her arms. “Who knows if you’re trying to cheat for Adella. I know that girl would do anything to get on that list.“]
She turned to glare at me before scoffing indignantly. Cyrus watched her with amusement in his eyes for a while before letting out a laugh.
“Miss Tina. I remember you quite well.” Cyrus smiled.]
Tina looked surprised. “You remember me?“[]
He ignored her question. “Would you like to see the video of when you were eliminated?”
She remained quiet, unable to answer his question. The smile on his face dropped, replaced by a spine chilling look in his eyes.
“Then shut up.”
That got her to zip her mouth. She looked down at her shoes, unable to meet the gaze of anyone in the room. It amazed me how she just didn’t know when to shut up. She’d already embarrassed herself plenty. I still had no idea what she was trying to achieve by doing all this.[]
Cyrus took out a disk and held them out for the crowd to see. “These are the videos of Adella’s audits. It also contains the signatures and approval of the elders.”
He searched the room with his eyes before continuing. “Adella didn’t appear on the list just now because someone deliberately changed her scores. Someone intentionally tried to manipulate the outcome of the results but luckily, they failed.”
