Chapter 12
“How could you do this, Adella? How could you?” His eyes began to water but his whole body was still trembling with
anger.
I had no idea why I was fumbling over my words as I spoke to him. “I don’t understand. I-“]
“You beat my mother to death. And why? Because she came to confront you?” []
“Excuse me, what?” I was finding it hard to wrap my head around what he was saying.
“I did no such thing. Who told you this?” |
Froste let out a sigh and put a hand to his forehead. She didn’t know what he was thinking but she was angry at the fact that she’d been lied against once again. It was like they were all having a field day lying against her.
“Everything that happened,” he started, “It was all my mother’s doing. The humiliation, the thing with my secretary, it was all her doing.”
When I didn’t reply immediately, he continued with what he was saying. “Look, I’ve asked her to come and apologize to
you. But why would you still want to beat her? And to death, no less.”
I stared at him, unable to believe what I was hearing. Without realizing, I began to laugh.[]
“Are you serious right now?” I scoffed. “You knew she planned this. You knew everything all this time. And you did absolutely nothing about it. You watched me get abused and humiliated. Yet, you did nothing.“]
I didn’t expect the cold look in his eyes as he stared at me. “Get over it and stop acting like a damn child, Adella. It’s not like you were beaten up so bad so stop overreacting. You should have seen through everything.“[]
“I was actually dying yesterday!” I yelled, tears streaming down my face.[]
Without thinking, I picked up an empty bottle of moon potion and thrusted it in his face. []
“This was what saved me. I would have actually died if it wasn’t for my brother.”
“Your brother?” Froste narrowed his eyes on me. “I don’t believe anything. Not the ruse you cooked up yesterday, and not that whole bullshit about you having brothers. You’re nothing but a cruel liar.”
I never thought I’d hear such harsh words come from Froste’s mouth. He was staring at me so coldly, like I meant absolutely nothing to him.[]
He doesn’t trust me anymore. I could tell by the look in his eyes. I felt the stabbing ache in my heart. What was the point in keeping our mate bond if he had no single trust for me in his heart?]
I stared straight at him. “I reject you Froste. I wish you nothing but the worst.“]
What followed next was the worst pain I’d ever felt in my life. It was nothing like what I’d felt yesterday. What’s worse, I didn’t have a wolf so the pain seemed to be multiplied.]
Black spots began to dot my vision. The last thing I heard before collapsing was Froste’s concerned voice.[]
Chapter 12
He said he doesn’t trust me. So why does he still care about me?]
“Adella!”
I opened my eyes, startled by the sound of my name being called. I looked around, relaxing a bit when I saw Olavir. He had a look of worry on his face as he stared at me.
“Are you okay?”
Truthfully, I didn’t know if I had an answer to that question. I was not okay at all. It was like someone had ripped my heart out of my chest.]
Froste.
I still couldn’t believe what had happened. I had rejected him. I never thought this day would come. I’d always envisioned our future together. Guess it was too good to be true.

Seeing that I couldn’t reply, Olavir continued to speak. “I never knew you didn’t have a wolf.” []
Shame washed over me and I found myself unable to look him in the eye. “I don’t. Humiliating, isn’t it?“[]
I didn’t expect him to put a hand under my chin, forcing me to look at him. There was a look of conviction in his eyes as he spoke.
“I’ll help you find it. I promise you this.”
“Thank
you.” My eyes watered with tears but I did my best to hold them back. I’d done enough crying for the day.
“Of course,” he smiled, “I can take you back to the pack now if you’re ready.”
My heart skipped a bit at the thought of finally getting to see my family. I couldn’t wait to finally be able to see them. At long last I’d no longer have to live life with no one by my
side.
“Wait. There’s something I have to do.” I said to him.[]
“What’s that?”
“I can’t leave just yet.” I sighed.]
Olavir studied me for a while before finally speaking. “You’re not going to be alone in this.”
He grabbed my hand and gave it a light squeeze. “We’re family, Adella. Blood. I don’t care what it is. I’ll face it with you.
