Chapter 84
Evelyn looked up. Amidst the thunderous applause, a tall figure entered from the side door, walking quickly. After Evelyn saw that it was Graham, she sat up straight. Her palms were a little sweatier, and she felt indescribably nervous.
Graham had actually showed up at the conference. He glanced at Evelyn as he walked past her. Then, he turned his head away with disappointment and ignored her.
Evelyn could not help but feel sad, even though she could understand what Graham was feeling
As Graham took his seat, Evelyn turned to glance at him. To her surprise, Graham sat next to Lucas.
At that moment, Tiffany was shaking hands with Graham and introducing herself.
Evelyn was a little taken aback, and the people around her were whispering to each other.
“Professor Hill actually came! Didn’t the insider news from earlier say that he wasn’t going to come?” The person lowered his voice before he continued, “I heard Mr. Grant invested 200 million dollars in research projects to get Professor Hill to show his face for a brief moment.”
“I understand now. Mr. Grant’s girlfriend is in the drone industry, so how could she not want to get to know the experts in our country?”
“Ms. Moore is so lucky. Mr. Grant is really generous toward his girlfriend. He invested 200 million dollars without even batting an eye. I’ve never heard of him being so nice to any woman
before.”
Evelyn was surrounded by whispers, and she heard everything. She lowered her gaze and pondered for a moment.
It turned out it was because Lucas had spent 200 million dollars for Tiffany’s sake that he managed to get Graham to attend the conference.
Evelyn suddenly thought about the high–end vintage hotel that her grandmother once owned. The hotel was in financial trouble because of years of mismanagement. At that time, Lucas did not even offer to help.
in the end, the hotel was sold off two years ago because they were unable to operate anymore.
Evelyn did not care anymore, but she still could not help but laugh at herself after seeing the stark comparison.
The conference went on until 7:00 pm. Then, the crowd immediately went to another venue for the party.
Sebastian could not sit still any longer. He immediately grabbed Evelyn and said, “Let’s go and meet my stubborn father.”
Evelyn held her breath. She would be lying if she said she was not nervous.
Sebastian led her toward Graham, and Evelyn stopped in her tracks when they were near.
Sebastian, on the other hand, went up to Graham. He did not address Graham as “Dad” in public. “Professor Hill, do you have time later to talk with us?”
Graham glanced in Evelyn’s direction with his hands behind his back. He let out a sneer and said, “Everybody here wants to talk to me, and I have to entertain so many people tonight. Do you think I have a lot of time on my hands?”
He strode away upon saying that.
Evelyn had expected him to react that way. Graham valued talents and was willing to take them under his wing.
He had very high hopes for Evelyn back then, yet she gave up the opportunity to apply for his graduate program and got married instead With all the reasons combined, it was inevitable for him to feel disappointed in her.
If she did not meet his expectations after she made a comeback, he probably would never see her again.
She was a little disappointed, but she was even more motivated by that as well.
Soon, Evelyn regained her composure.
Sebastian came back to her and said with a sigh, “What a stubborn old man. Don’t worry. I’ll find a chance to talk to him. He’s just mad that you gave up on getting your master’s degree. He was so eager back then that he specifically kept a spot for you.”
Evelyn felt guilty. “It’s fine. Let’s just take it slow. I’m not going to join the party later and want to head back to my room to rest.”
She caught a cold yesterday, so she was feeling a little tired that day.
Sebastian did not push her. “Alright. Just keep my jacket on.”
Evelyn was not interested in the party. The next itinerary was time for them to talk about project investments, so she did not quite care for that. It would be enough for Sebastian alone to be
there.
After Evelyn returned to the hotel, she took a shower and started organizing all the essential information she had gained recently.

She wanted to get Graham’s approval. She wanted to tell him she did not give up studying in the past three years.
After she met Graham, she was in a good mood, so she took a photo of the hotel window and posted it on Instagram. Soon, Maria gave her a video call. “Evie, why didn’t you tell me you’ve gone on a trip to Holmer City with Lucas?”
