Chapter 81
The conference’s venue was right across the hotel–merely a stone’s throw away.
Evelyn felt much better when she woke up the next day. Her throat was not killing her anymore, but she still took the medication.
There was going to be a cocktail party after the conference, and the entire event would be held from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
At noon, Evelyn’s doorbell rang. She opened the door and was surprised to see Blake.
“Why do you look so unwell?” Blake furrowed his brows when he saw Evelyn. She did not have any makeup on, so her lips looked rather pale.
“Are you sick?” he asked, touching Evelyn’s forehead. “Have you taken any medication? Should I take you to the hospital?”
Evelyn could tell that she was truly concerned. Still, she took a step back and avoided his gaze. “Can I help you?”
Blake would soon be the son–in–law of the Clarks- the family who owned the Clark Group. It was not surprising that he would attend such a grand event.
Seeing how Evelyn was acting distant, Blake furrowed his eyebrows. There was a long pause before he handed a gift box to her. “See if you like it. The event today is rather formal, so I thought you should have a decent accessory to wear. This suits you a lot.”
Evelyn saw a luxury brand’s logo on the box and pursed her lips. “I don’t need it.”
Blake stuffed it into her hands and said, “You’re acting like a kid. Stop resisting. I’m here to tell you to let me know in advance if you’re going to have a big memorial service for your mother’s third death anniversary. I’ll go over to accompany you.”
Evelty was a little stunned. She did not expect that Blake would remember that. Naomi had passed away a year before Evelyn got married, so this year marked the third year. Even Lucas might not remember that.
“Alright. I’ll see you later at the conference.” While Blake looked at his phone, he patted Evelyn’s head out of habit and left.
Evelyn could tell that Blake was not fully sincere, so of course, she would not take his word seriously. She closed the door and opened the box to have a look.
It was a necklace with a crescent moon pendant. She had been interested in aerospace ever since she was a child. Other than reading books about aerospace, she bought a telescope to observe the moon and the stars in the sky.
It was no wonder Blake said that it suited her. How nice of him to remember what she liked.
Evelyn frowned a little and hesitated for a while. It was true that she did not have many accessories, and she did not bring any on this trip.
In the end, Evelyn put on the dress Justine gave her, applied some makeup, and put the necklace on before leaving her room. She thought she could not go wrong by dressing up.
She arrived at the venue along with Sebastian. The various fields‘ elites had also arrived.
The big screen in front of the hall was showcasing outstanding products in the past few years. Coincidentally, they were showing the UN2 combat drone when Evelyn arrived. They were showing that drone as the day’s highlight.
Sebastian raised his eyebrows and asked, “Did you see that? After so many years, you’re still at the industry’s forefront. If you hadn’t gotten married, you would have achieved so much more.
Sebastian rarely admired anybody. He only looked up to his father, as well as Evelyn. Not only did his father hate Lucas, but Sebastian, too, found Lucas quite annoying.
Evelyn looked up at the big screen, feeling emotional. She looked around and saw that many people had stopped in their tracks because the UN2 combat drone was playing on the screen. They were all looking at it with adoration.
Evelyn could not help but smile. Fortunately, it was not too late by the time she came to her senses.
“I’m going to check out the products on display over there.” Evelyn was more interested in the products of her peers in the industry.
Sebastian nodded. “Go ahead.”
As soon as Evelyn left, a few people had Sebastian surrounded.
“It’s been a long time, Mr. Hill. I heard that Flying Seal Group is recently developing a new project. Could you reveal to me what direction it is going to take?”
Sebastian had gotten used to people ingratiating themselves with him. He smiled and replied with ease, “It’s been a long time. The project’s direction is not set yet, so there’s really nothing much I can say.”
After all, he could not disclose too much before the project was officially announced.
Of course, the others understood that. Someone raised his glass to Sebastian and said, “The combat drone you developed back then left everyone astonished. I’m afraid that your new project is going to put some pressure on our industry again.”
“A genius like you is so rare to come by, Mr. Hill. You already have such mature ideas when you’re just in your 20s. You’ve overcome the technical difficulties and achieved a breakthrough. There’s hope for our country’s aerospace industry.”
They flattered him, but they sincerely admired him as well.
Sebastian raised an eyebrow and glanced at Evelyn before he said, “You flatter me, but I’m not the one who developed the UN2. I was just involved and a witness.”
What he said left everyone baffled. Then, one after another, they started asking him questions.
Sebastian waved his hand and said, “I’m sorry. I can’t tell you anything more.”
Just as he sent those people away, sebastian realized that Lucas and the others had already arrived. Of course, they heard what he just said, too.
