Mandy was one of Mia’s biggest fans, completely idolizing her. In her mind, Mia was the best. Being a team leader wasn’t even enough, Mia should be a senior partner with her skills.
“That promotion might not go to me, so keep those thoughts between us. Don’t say that around other people, or they’ll just laugh,” Mia said seriously, her smile fading.
Her relationships at the firm weren’t exactly great. If word got out and she didn’t end up getting the promotion, people would definitely make her the punchline of their jokes.
“I’m just talking to you, of course I wouldn’t say anything outside this room. But are you going to the dinner tonight, Mia?” Mandy asked.
After working as Mia’s assistant for two years, the two of them were pretty casual with each other in private, and their working relationship was smooth.
Mia checked the time. “I have to step out for a bit, but if there’s a dinner, just send me the location and I’ll meet you there.”
Those Genesis shares were a gift from Grandpa. She wasn’t going to pass them up, especially not if there was a chance Hunter would end up giving them to Jenna. She couldn’t let that happen.
“Got it, I’ll send you the details later,” Mandy said as she continued organizing some files,
Mia tidied her desk and left the office. On the way to Genesis Corporation, she got a call from Mr. Jasper

“Mia, I need you to come to Hunter’s office. There’s something I need to discuss with you!” His voice was laced with barely controlled anger.
Mia’s heart sank a little, but she agreed softly, “Okay, I’ll be there soon.”

“I always thought you were smart, which is why I groomed you to take over. But look at the mess you’ve made!” he yelled.

Jasper Sr.’s face darkened with fury. “That’s the Jasper family bracelet! It’s not about the price. It’s a symbol of status! What’s the point of buying another one for Mia?”
Jenna may seem sweet and gentle, but Mr. Jasper Sr. knew she was cunning. He had never liked her. “The bracelet’s already been given away. You can’t just take it back,” Hunter sighed, rubbing his temples.
It was just a bracelet, What did it matter if Jenna had it? She was part of the family too. Why should Mia get special treatment?
In truth, he knew it was all because Mr. Jasper Sr. favored Mia.
“Fine, if you won’t ask for it back, then I’ll swallow my pride and make the call myself,” Mr. Jasper Sr. said, fully aware of the significance of that bracelet when worn.
