“And Jenna? She just sits on the couch, acting like a queen, expecting the staff to serve her. The whole house revolves around her, so who’s supposed to look after me?”
At this point, Mr. Jasper Sr.’s face had darkened considerably. How could two women raised in such similar circumstances be so different?
“There are chefs in the house. Why does anyone need to cook themselves? And besides, the staff is here to serve the family. Jenna has always been delicate and needs that kind of attention,” Hunter replied. casting a glance at Mia.
Mia was always put together, whether it was at work or at home, she dressed like the perfect Mrs. Jasper. Even in bed, she was rigid and dull. Being with her always felt like something was missing. Yet, for some reason, Grandpa adored her.
Three years ago, it had been his grandfather who insisted he marry her.
Mia’s eyes dimmed, and as she lowered her head to sip the soup. Her hand trembled slightly as she gripped the spoon.
In Hunter’s eyes, everything she did was pointless.
Her job? He said it was just a job.
Her cooking? He said the chefs could handle it.
Yet he had eaten her home–cooked meals for three years.
How ironic.
“Your older brother is dead. Jenna hasn’t remarried, so she’s still your sister–in–law. The person you should be protecting is your wife, not your sister–in–law Mr. Jasper Sr. was getting heated, his voice booming.
He could never understand why Hunter had paid no attention to Jenna while his older brother was alive. but after his death, Hunter seemed almost obsessed with her.
“She’s pregnant,” Hunter replied flatly.
His brother was gone, and Hunter felt it was his duty to care for Jenna. After all, Jenna had saved his life

And now that she was pregnant, he was determined to ensure both mother and child were safe.
“Pregnant? Hunter…” Mr. Jasper Sr. choked on his words and began to cough violently. Whose child was this?
Mia quickly stood and rubbed his back, her voice soothing. “Grandpa, don’t get upset. It’s not good for your health.”
Her tone was so gentle, as if she hadn’t just been sitting there, listening to every painful word of the
conversation.

If it hadn’t been for him forcing them into marriage three years ago, she could have been living a much happier life.
Hunter’s face darkened, his expression grim as frustration radiated from him.
Mia smiled. “You’ve treated me like your own granddaughter, Grandpa. You’ve done nothing wrong. Let’s not dwell on it and just enjoy our meal.
If she had heard Hunter say such things before, she would have been heartbroken. But ever since she decided on the divorce, she had been making peace with herself. Her emotions no longer swung wildly with his words.
Mr. Jasper Sr. glanced at Mia’s calm smile and felt an uneasy pang in his chest.
“Mia, sit down and eat with me. I’m fine now,” he urged.
He knew the news of Jenna’s pregnancy must be hard on Mia. He would have to handle this situation carefully, or it could break her heart.
Mia obediently sat down to eat, maintaining an air of quiet elegance, like the perfect lady. Hunter, however, only saw the woman before him as plain and flavorless, like a glass of water.
