Chapter 15
“Cecelia, do you have anything to say in your defense about these videos?” lan asked coldly as he tapped the computer screen, which was playing surveillance footage of Cecelia framing Ruby.
Cecelia went pale. She hadn’t known that everything she had done had been recorded.
Lips trembling, she said in a panic, “These…. These are all fake! Someone is trying to frame me! How can you believe this?”
Henry scoffed. “Frame you? Cecelia, these videos were retrieved from my house’s surveillance cameras. Besides, who would go to all the trouble just to set you up?”
Cecelia’s eyes darted around in a panic. “So what if I did these?” she screamed hysterically. “What did I do wrong? You spoiled me for so many years! You were the ones who told me that I deserve the best! Ruby Lynch is just a poor pauper. Why should I have to compete with her?”
Ian stood up abruptly. His voice was filled with suppressed rage. “Cecelia, don’t forget that you’re just her replacement! We spoiled you because we saw you as Ruby’s substitute. The one thing you should never have done was hurt her!”
Cecelia swayed from where she stood. “Her replacement?” she repeated in despair. “How many times have you said that now? Did you never really love me after all these years
Christopher’s expression was icy, “You know we’ve treated you well for years, yet this is how you repay our affection. We know everything you’ve done, Cecelia. You framed Ruby and nearly got her killed—we’ll make you pay for every single thing you’ve done!”
In the following days, Cecelia went through every bit of suffering she had once inflicted upon Ruby.
She was pushed down the stairs and left covered in wounds and bruises; had hot water poured on her, causing her skin to blister and burn; and was locked out on the balcony and left shivering in the freezing cold.
Every single time, she cried and begged for mercy, but no one listened.
Ian and Henry just watched her suffer with cold eyes. Christopher and Anna turned away, unable to bear the sight.
“You deserve this,” Ian said coldly. “We’re just treating you the way you treated Ruby.”
In the end, they decided to send her to prison. They wanted her to pay for what she had done.
However, on the way to the prison, Cecelia managed to free herself and escape.
“After her!” Ian ordered urgently, aghast.
Just then, Matthew rushed over, his face filled with excitement. “We might have found Ms. Ruby’s whereabouts!”
“What?” Ian and Henry exclaimed at the same time, their eyes flashing with joy.
Christopher and Anna quickly came up too. “Really? Where is she?” they asked tremblingly.
“Ms. Reby has been constantly on the move these last few days. She never stayed at one place for too long, which is why she’s been so hard to track. But now, our latest intel positioned her at New Seaville–of course, she might just be passing through, so we have to hurry if we want to see her!”
Hearing this, the group no longer had time to worry about pursuing Cecelia. Instead, they hurriedly booked flight tickets to New Seaville.
