Chapter 54
1/1
The next day, as Emma was preparing to send an international parcel, the doorbell rang again.
She assumed it was the delivery guy, but having learned from past experiences, she cautiously checked the peephole.
The moment she saw Frank’s face, a chill silently ran down her spine. She took a deep breath as displeasure flashed in her eyes.
It was truly the manifestation of Murphy’s law.
Just as Emma thought she would pretend not to be home, she suddenly heard the sound of the lock being tampered with!
Her breath hitched right that second.
Frank had clearly come prepared today. If she didn’t open the door, was he planning to break the lock?
For the first time, Emma felt truly disgusted by his actions.
Without hesitation, she yanked the door open and glared at him coldly. Frank, with a lockpick in his hand, saw her, and his expression darkened. With an edge of reprimand in his voice, he questioned, “Emma, how long do you plan on avoiding me?”
Her expression turned cold. Why did he still think she was avoiding him and that she was being unreasonable?
There had never been anything between them to begin with, so even saying that things were “over” for them felt misplaced.
For Emma, Frank was already a closed chapter–a chapter of her past.
The air between them turned frigid as she stared at him icily.
Seeing her cold indifference, Frank’s brows furrowed. He unconsciously bit his lip, hard enough that a faint taste of blood spread in his mouth. At last, he compromised, lowering his voice to a whisper. “Emma, can you not treat me like a stranger?”
She used to be such a sweet girl and had been so close to him.
Back then, after a long, exhausting day at work, teasing her had brought him a sense of comfort. It had been a way to unwind and relax.
Emma cut him off, saying, “Frank Castro, there’s nothing between us anymore–no blood ties, no connections. Now that I’ve left the Castro family, I have no plans of going back. What exactly do you want?”
His expression turned steely. “Come back to me, Emma. It’s been two years… I’ve let you have your fun long enough. Don’t make me say it again.”
Emma stiffened “That’s impossible. You should leave.”
“Is this because of that man?” Frank’s eyes darkened as he stepped closer. “Emma, no one knows you better than I do. Do you really think I’d believe this little act you’re putting on with another man?”
Emma boiled over with indignant anger, her fists clenched tightly by her sides. “I’m already married! I’m taken, Frank! Can you not understand that?”
Frank’s eyes flickered for a moment at her outburst, but then his gaze shifted to the packed suitcases in the living room.
His expression softened slightly as a faint smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “Emma, are you planning to return home? The position of PR director at Castro Group has always been reserved for you.”
Emma was stunned.
The PR director role had been left vacant for two years?
Frank was… really something.
In an icy tone that showed no signs of relenting, she said, “That’s unnecessary. I won’t work for Castro Group. Stop wasting your time on meaningless things.”
“Emma, I’ra not asking!” Frank’s eyes turned bloodshot, his stare intense and obsessive. 1
Jus: then, his phone rang. He immediately declined the call, but it rang again as if urgently demanding his attention.
Emma watched, and for a moment, she felt a sense of deja vu.
But this time, she was indifferent. She wouldn’t be hurt by this again!
Frank had no choice but to pull out his phone and answer it coldly, “This better be important.”
On the other end, Kate was intimidated by Frank’s voice and stammered, “M–Mr. Castro, it’s Ms. Davila. She was injured while being stalked by a crazed fan. She… She really wants to see you.
