Contract Marriage 12

Chapter 12
The ceremony is going just as we planned. More like, just like Aaron planned, I had no part in the planning but from the pleased look on Aaron’s face as we listen to the minister, I can tell that it is going smoothly.
“You can now read your vows.” the minister says with a warm smile.
now read your
I hope the shock. I am feeling is not apparent on my face. I did not prepare a vow, I did not know everything was going to be by the book.
If I did not already know this whole thing for what it really is, I would think we were truly lovers getting married.
We turn to face each other. Aaron is wearing a big smile on his face, he looks more like the blushing bride.
I resist the urge to smirk at his fake smile, he is really good at this. He clears his throat loudly and the hall becomes completely silent.
It feels like everyone is waiting with bated breath to hear the words of unfailing love from the Aaron Scott, including me.
He leans in closer to me, “You look beautiful.” he whispers, more like tries to whisper,
Everybody heard him and I can hear some people gushing about how cute we are.
I clamp my mouth shut against the sarcastic response bubbling in my throat, I look down and smile like I am too shy to
meet his eves.
“Aurora Lightwood, when I think about how we met I can’t help but realise that we are fated to be together.” he is not reading from a paper. He must have put a lot of thoughts into this.
“From the moment I saw you, I knew you were the woman I was going to marry. And I was the happiest man alive when my grandfather accepted you wholeheartedly, he could tell you were the only woman for me.” he continues.
I snort in amusement and quickly cover it up by clearing my throat. Of course you knew you were going to marry me, that was what the entire meeting was about. Poor Albert,
A stern look crosses Aaron’s eyes but it is gone in a split second as he continues to regale me with tales of our “love”
After he is done, I hear people sniffing in the audience. A few people rise to clap like it was a presentation they enjoyed, the officiating minister has to call them to order. Aaron was that good.
“Your turn.” Aaron says, he is tapping his feet like he is nervous and he almost looks endearing. Two can play at that game.
“Aaron Scott, to many people you are a cold, infuriating man…”true, I hear murmurs in the audience and Aaron shoots me a warning glare before turning on his fake smile again.
“…but to me, my love, you are warm and kind. The most gentle man I have ever known.” I try to convey as much emotion as I can in my voice.
“From the moment we met I knew I was in trouble.” true, because you stole my heart and I knew I wasn’t going to be getting it back.” I glance at the guests.
“It was love at first sight. I say y and many gush about how sweet that is.
I chuckle and blush sweetly as if I just remembered something that makes me warm and fuzzy
“Remember that night?” I ask Aaron, a confused look crosses his faces briefly but he keeps smiling.
“What night? We have had a number of memorable nights,” he says with a suggestive tone in his voice It makes Lakshini

giggle.

“The night you told me you wouldn’t mind taking my last name Aaron’s eyebrows shoot up in surprise, his eyes seem to scream at me, what the f***k are you talking about?
I glance at the guests, “That’s how much he loves me, of course refused his offer because he is Aaron Scott. That name means something but he showed me that night that I am more important to him than whatever legacy he has built.”
I dab at invisible tears and Lakshmi hands me a tissue, I smile her and turn back in an urn by now.
Aaron. If looks could kill. I would be
“That’s when I knew I had found my other half. Aaron Scott, I promise to stand by you for as long as you allow me.” I say.
I make my voice c***k to make it seem like I am holding back tears. I really am good at this, maybe after the contract expires, I can consider a career in acting.
The guests cheer while Aaron and I smile sweetly at each other. Only I can tell he is not actually pleased, I widen my smile because I couldn’t care less.
“Aaron Scott, do you take Aurora Lightwood to be your lawfully wedded wife?
“I do”
“Aurora Lightwood, do you take Aaron Scott to be your lawfully wedded husband?” “I do.”
The officiating minister beams, “I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Aaron leans in and I duck like I am shy. He laughs and hugs me while the guests cheer for our union.
We are at the wedding party and despite myself I am enjoying it Candace is still with the nanny and the last time I checked, they were getting along pretty well.
“Your wife is beautiful. You are a lucky man Aaron” the man says clapping Aaron’s back.
I play my role as the blushing bride, “Thank you.”
According to what Aaron told me while we were walking towards the man after greeting a few guests, the man is the CEO of one of the leading car manufacturing companies in the world, he also has his roots in the textile business.
In other words, he is old money, another person on my growing list of people I would never have been in the same room with if not for this wedding.
“You are wearing Tania Conzalez right?” the man’s wife asks.
I nod, “Yes,” Aaron and the man are engaged in a conversation that did not seem to be any of my business so I face the wife.
She responds with a pleased smile, and raises her champagne glass to me, “You have exquisite taste”
“You like Tania’s designs too?”
“I love them and who doesn’t? it’s just a shame really. She made a few of my dresses for an event held when my husband opened a new branch in Peru and I have not been able to make another appointment with her since then.”
She puts her hand to her chest as her lace lights up in realisation “Maybe you can help me with that,”

“Uh..”I glance at Aaron who is engrossed in his conversation with the man. I am sure we can arrange something I say leaning into Aaron, he glances at me and continues talking to the man.
-So, how did you guys meet?” the wife asks. I can almost swear everyone within hearing distance started listening as soon as she asked that question.

yet.
I am not sure what our backstory is supposed to be. Aaron hasn’t briefed me on
“Uh, it’s a long story actually, I don’t want to bore you, right baby?” I nudge Aaron and he turns to me “She is asking about how we met, I told her it’s a long story:
He nods in agreement, “A very long one.” he smoothly changes the topic and I sigh in relief.
Somehow we end the night without getting caught. Candace is fast asleep when the nanny hands her over to me. “Thank you.” I say to the nanny and gently pace Candace in her car seat
“My pleasure ma’am, congratulations once again.”
I smile tiredly. “Thank you, goodnight.”
Aaron did not

the same car this time, I guess the ruse is over for now. We get home before Aaron.
I stare at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, my make-up is intact and I don’t look as tired as I feel. I smile at myself. “Good job today Aurora.” I say and proceed to removing my dress and make-up. After a relaxing shower, I feel sleepy.
1 get into bed beside Candace. I am just about to fall asleep when I hear a knock. I groan quietly and get out of bed. I sluggishly walk to the door and open it. It’s Aaron,
“To my study,” he says. I quietly close the door behind me, “You are not going to change your clothes first?” He is still wearing his wedding suit.
“This is going to be brief.” he says without looking back.
I enter the study after him and find him leaning on his table with his arms folded across his chest
“Overall, you did well but I would rather you didn’t tell outrageous lies.”
I blink at him innocently, “Today was full of lies, which of them did you find outrageous?”
He scowls, “I was going to take your last name? You matter moreto me than my legacy? Those were outrageous b***it.”
I chuckle, thoroughly enjoying how annoyed he looks, “I was just trying to make it more believable.”
He scoff’s. “We need to come up with a fitting story about how we met but that will be tomorrow. I have had a long day.”
1 yawn dramatically, “So have 1”
“We are seeing Albert tomorrow by noon. Be prepared, you can go now.” he says and turns away from me.
“Goodnight.” I wave. I don’t expect a reply and he doesn’t give me one. I walk back to my room with a tired smile playing on my lips
