Chapter 10
“Tania told me she found you the perfect dress?” Aaron says from his seat behind the table. We are in his study and I am standing in front of the table like a teenager that was called to the teacher’s office.
His eyes staring at me from above the rim of his mug makes the situation more comical
“Yes.”
He places his mug on the table, “And”
1 furrow my eyebrows in confusion, “And what?”
“Did you like it?”
1 stort, “You care if I like it?”
“Not particularly, but I hear that a happy bride makes a happy wedding. I don’t want you fussing about the dress and ruinin my mood that day.”
I chuckle and fold my arms, “And if I say I don’t you will rush me to another designer?”
He shakes his head, “There is no better designer for you than Tania in my books. Though. I do have other people on my roster. So, do you not like it!
I roll my eyes exasperatedly, I like it. It’s a beautiful dress and the fact that I had a one on one consultation with the Tania Gonzalez was very exciting. Still is
“It’s good to know you have good taste somewhere within you” he says with a patronizing smile.
I bristle at his condescending tone but I don’t rise to the bait. He is trying to p*** me off, or maybe he is not even trying. He seems to be a natural at being an a***ole.
I plaster a smile on my face, “Can I go now?”
He waves me off, “Yeah, I have work to do.” I am about to walk out of the door when he says something.
“I heard you chatting up a storm with Beatrice.” I look at him over my shoulder, “Yeah?”
He places his clasped hands beneath his chin and squints at me, I don’t mind you frolicking with the help, but know your boundaries.”
I turn to face him with a frown on my face, “What does that even mean?”
“It means don’t tell her about our arrangement. The less people know about it the better for the both of us.” He is right but I do not like his tone so leave the room without saying another word to him.
I sigh as I walk back to the living room where Candace is still watching cartoons. I sit beside her “Hey baby.” I say ruffling her hair. She smiles at me and turns her attention back to the TV,
“Dace, I love that you have found a new hobby but I can’t et this continue. You have been here for house. You only took a break to eat.” I scold my two-year-old and she turns to me with pout
Dace is smart and very perceptive so even though she might not completely understand what I said, she knew I was scolding her.
I shake my head; “No, you are not trapping me with that face again.” I say but her eyes grow even bigger, I wag a finger in her face. “No miss. That is enough TV for the day.”

she continues staring at me until I finally give in. “Okay, one more hound that is it.” I say. She doesn’t give me any reaction, she just turns back towards the TV.

1 lean back in the sofa and stare at the cartoon playing on the TV. My mind was faraway, I do not have much to do for now. Aaron is fully in charge of the wedding preparations and he only calls me when he needs me.
It’s not like I had a steady jobs before this but the feeling of having nothing to do is quite unsettling.
I walk over to one of the large windows and pull the curtain aside. I inhale sharply at the sight hat greets me. It feels like I can see the entire city from here.
“What are you doing?” Aaron’s voice sounds from behind me. I turn around to see him standing at the entrance of the hallway with a frown on his face.
“Staring at the beautiful scenery, what else does it look like?”
“I prefer my curtains drawn, thank you,”
I look around the living room. “It’s hard not to notice, we are basically shrouded in curtains.”
He walks closer and starts closing the curtains, “If you know that why would you open it?”
I step aside as I watch him with a sneer on my face, “What is the point of having a penthouse if you won’t let natural sunlight stream in and admire the beauty below?”
He points his chin towards a window at the corner, “That is what that is for. Natural sunlight and what not.”
“But you have a better view from here.”
“Aurora. I really hate when people mess up my routine. You and the baby being here is already enough of a headache for me. Just leave things the way you met them.”
I grit my teeth. “The baby’s name is Candace, if that is a mouthful for you then about her like she is just another furniture in the room.”

He steps closer to me, “Okay Aurora but do I look like I give a f***k?” I glare at him as he walks towards the door, “Where are you going?
“None of your business. The chef will be here soon to make dinner, when the bell rings let him in.”
I snap my fingers,”Uh genius, how am I supposed to know it’s the chef and not just a random man?” I yell.
“No random man is coming to my front door Aurora. Keep up.” he says and walks out of the apartment.
I scuff and glance at Candace, she does not seem to have noticed Aaron’s presence. It’s obvious she is fighting sleep to watch
I turn off the TV and walk over to her, “You had a busy day, didn’t you?” I coo. She responds with a yawn and stretches her hands towards me.
I carry her to our room and lay her gently on the bed. The ring of the doorbell resounds through the entire apartment and

“Good evening ma’am” he says with a slight bow and walks past me into the kitchen. I stay at the entrance of the kitchen and watch him prepare his ingredients
After he is done, he looks at me with a polite smile, “I prefer to cook alone ma’am” he says. I want to protest and say I was not joining him. just watching but I figure it means the same thing to him.
“Oh, sorry about that.” I say and walk back to my room,
Two days later
“Thank you.” I say to the man that came to deliver my dress. The dress was standing beautifully in my room and it almost enough to make me excited about tomorrow. I close the door and go over to the dining area.
“Thank you chef.” I say to the chef as he serves the dishes. Even though it is just Candace and 1, he always prepares varieties of dishes and I am always eager to try them.
Some of them are dishes I have only seen on TV, even when I was comfortable two years ago, I couldn’t have afforded them. He nods and goes back into the kitchen.
I have gotten used to him now, he hardly says much except responding when you ask him something. His cooking is absolutely fantastic and I can see why Aaron employed him and Beatrice.
It’s like having the best of both worlds, home cooking and fine dining. I can already tell I will miss it after the 90 days are over, maybe I will be splurge a bit on fine dining with the money I get at the end.
Aaron has been out since yesterday, I don’t know where he went and I don’t bother to ask. I don’t even have his number.
I laugh at the thought and Candace turns to me with an inquisitive look on her face. I am getting married tomorrow and I don’t even have the groom’s number.
Wait, what if he had suddenly decided to not come to the wedding. I shake my head at the thought, he has a lot at stake. He needs this marriage thing to work out as much as I do. I hear the front door open and see Aaron come in.
He is wearing a different suit than the one he wore yesterday when he left. I don’t remember him carrying a bag yesterday so wherever he went had a change of clothes ready for him.
“Welcome. “I mutter Candace claps excitedly as he walks towards us, but he pretends not to notice her as usual and walks past us into the kitchen.
The chef comes out moments I
later, “I am leaving ma’am.” he says with a slight bow.
“Okay bye” I say and he leaves the apartment. I pack mine and candace’s dirty dishes and take them to the kitchen. I see Aaron rating at the counter. I
raise an eyebrow in confusion, “Why didn’t you just come and it at the dining table?”
“I prefer eating alone.” he says.
I scoll, “Are you serious?”
He doesn’t answer me and continues eating. This is the man I am getting married to tomorro
