Chapter 13
Alice’s signature burned into his vision. Bradley stared at them for a long time, unable to believe it. However, he had no choice but to accept the truth. That was indeed Alice’s handwriting.
This wasn’t some cruel prank. It wasn’t a joke. Alice had left him a divorce agreement and left him for good.
His mind went blank. He had never even considered the possibility that Alice would actually walk away.
When he saw that deformed child, he thought she was just acting out of anger.
But now, with the divorce papers in his hands, he finally understood that Alice was really gone.
Jacob remained silent, not even daring to breathe. The excitement from earlier had completely vanished.
Suddenly, the shrill ring of a phone shattered the suffocating silence, snapping Bradley back to reality. He grabbed his phone and answered without thinking.
“Ali-”
“Brad, what’s taking you so long to come back?”
He barely got a word out before the woman on the other end cut him off. It wasn’t Alice. It was Maisy, her voice coyingly saccharine as she continued demanding Alice’s child. Bradley’s expression twisted into disgust. All of this was because of Maisy.
Hadn’t he done enough for her already? He’d ripped out Christine’s heart, scattered her ashes, and covered up every one of Alice’s miscarriages as accidents. He had even transferred all his wealth to Maisy’s name.
So why did she have to go after Alice? Could she really not stand the existence of anyone else?
Bradley’s anger surged. He forgot that when he thought Alice had pushed Maisy down the stairs, he had also believed Alice was the one in the wrong.
Now, he turned all his fury toward Maisy, that vile woman.
Bradley let out a cold laugh. “You want Alice’s child? Sure. I’ll bring it to you right now.”
He hung up without waiting for a response and ordered Jacob to buy a complete set of baby supplies.
Then, he carefully wrapped the lifeless fetus in a blanket, placed it into a stroller, and set off for Maisy’s home.
The moment he knocked, Maisy rushed to the door.
“Brad! I’ve been waiting forever!”
She threw her arms around him in greeting, then eagerly turned to look at the stroller.
Of course, she had no intention of actually raising Alice’s child. She just wanted to use it as another way to torment Alice. As far as she was concerned, the baby was better off dead. A cunning glint flickered in her eyes.
She lifted the tightly wrapped cloth, only to scream the next second in shock.
“What the hell is that? Bradley Sharp, are you out of your mind? You brought me a dead fetus?”
Her eyes widened in shock.
Bradley smirked. “This is what you wanted, isn’t it, Maisy?”
He lifted the corpse from the stroller. At once, the unbearable stench of decay filled the air. Maisy instinctively retreated,
“1-1 meant Alice’s child! Not that thing! Get it away from me! It’s disgusting!”
But this time, the ever–obedient Bradley didn’t listen. With a cold expression, he shoved the dead infant into Maisy’s arms.
Horrified, she shrieked as wriggling maggots crawled onto her hands. Unable to control herself, she flung the fetus away and collapsed to the floor, retching.
She couldn’t understand how the man who had obeyed her just hours ago had suddenly lost his mind and brought her this horrifying thing.
Tears welled in her eyes as she looked up at him pitifully.
“Brad, stop messing around, just give me Alice’s baby already.”
She pouted the way she always did, but Bradley wasn’t buying it this time. Instead, he picked up the fetus again. The blanket slipped off, revealing it in tull. It made Maisy gag in
disgust.
“This is Alice’s child. Isn’t this what you wanted? I brought it to you, Malsy.”
Bradley took slow steps forward. His presence was even more terrifying to Maisy than the lifeless fetus in his hands.
