Chapter 14
“Mr. Castro, Ms. Dyer’s flight has already taken off. The airline also stated that Ms. Dyer requested that her flight details remain confidential. Even if you’re her uncle, they can’t disclose any information to you.”
Frank’s body tensed as soon as the words came out, and his expression darkened instantly.
Emma was gone, and she made sure he couldn’t find out where she was going.
Frank drove straight back to the Castro residence. Thea hadn’t expected to see him in the middle of the day. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Frank? What are you doing at home?”
Without responding, he charged up the stairs and entered Emma’s room.
The moment the door was pushed open, the room was totally vacant. She had taken everything and left no trace behind.
The only thing left was the gifts he had ordered his assistant to prepare for her, which were an eyesore to him now. They rested neatly on the bed, still in their wrappers and unopened.
Frank’s pupils shrank as images of the past memories of Emma following him everywhere flashed through his mind. Each recollection felt like a sharp fragment cutting into his nerves. He forced himself to suppress his thoughts, but her image kept resurfacing.
His whole body was tense, his gaze dangerously cold. He pulled out his phone and sent her a message without hesitation. But the moment he hit send, a red exclamation mark popped up. The message failed to send.
His expression darkened further. He dialed her number, but her phone was powered off.
Every sign pointed to the undeniable fact that Emma had left. She had vanished from his life.
When she was by his side, he had taken her presence for granted. Now that she was gone, his chest ached with an unbearable tightness that made it hard to breathe.
He turned and went downstairs, stopping in front of Thea.
The mother and son locked eyes. She asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Mom, where’s Emma?”
A flicker of sadness passed through her eyes, but she quickly composed herself after remembering her conversation with Emma. “She left.” “Where?”
“She went abroad to study.”
“I know! But where did she go?” Frank’s voice lowered to a near snarl.
Seeing his attitude, Thea’s tone became firm. “I’m not sure where she went. Didn’t she tell you she got an offer from a university abroad?”
Upon hearing this, his expression grew grim. He remembered Emma wanted to tell him a piece of good news and invited him to dinner. But that night, he had just reconnected with Lea. So, he canceled on her without calling to explain.
Frank instantly opened his phone to retrieve their chat. Emma had always been talkative and liked to send him messages from time to time. But after Lea came back, her texts gradually decreased.
After scrolling for some time, he couldn’t find any mention of the country she was planning to go to.
Thea sighed as she observed him. “Frank, Emma stayed at Castro Group for you. She tried hard to keep up with you, but you’ve never appreciated her. Now that she’s gone, you should just let her go.”
Frank frowned. “What are you talking about, Mom? I’m practically her uncle.”
“You two have no blood connection. Besides, don’t tell me that you’ve never noticed…” She drifted off and shook her head. It was too late now.
“Forget it. After all, you like Lea. Since Emma is going abroad and will start a better life there, you should stop bothering her.”
Hearing this, Frank squeezed his lips into a narrow line and wrinkled his brows fiercely. He left the Castro residence and returned to Castro Group.
When he was in his office, he called Courtney, “Come up here now!”
His assistant, Shane Lawson, could feel the unpleasant chill radiating from him. Still, he couldn’t help but find that it was all too late for Frank to care about Emma now. Courtney arrived soon after and stood respectfully before him. “Mr. Castro.”
“Why didn’t anyone notity me that Emma has resigned?”
Courtney hesitated before responding, “Ms. Dyer said she wanted to tell you directly. Furthermore, the resignation letter has already been signed and sent to your email. Didn’t you see it, Mr. Castro?”
“Every resignation must go through proper handover procedures. Who permitted you to let her leave?” Frank yelled.
