Chapter 65
“Let him target me all he wants.” Jeremiah had never been afraid of anyone. “You don’t need to worry about this. Just live your life as usual.”
“Jeremiah “Victoria felt like he was being too stubborn.
“you think Trame back just because I wanted to come back?” His wonds were like a tongue twister as he casually rested ahand on the steering wheel “I’ve got orders from Bossy Susie. If I really leave you alone, do you think she won’t come after ine with a knife next time we meet?”
“I’ll explain things to her, Victoria said seriously
“No need.” He kept his eyes on the road, his tone just as firms. “I’s settled. No matter what tricks Leon pulls, Susie and are always on your slide”
Victoria was about to argue, but he cut her ott.” you refuse, that means you don’t consider us Iriends. And if you don’t consider un friends, I won’t be able to resist beating Leon up to vent my frustration.”
She was confused and struggling to follow his logic. “If we’re not even friends anymore, why would you still bother beating him up?”
“Because he’d be the Indirect reason you stopped being friends with us,” Jerembali said, sounding like a master of reasoning. “So, he’s the one who’s going to pay for it.”
At this point, Victoria knew that Jeremiah and Susie had made up their minds, She felt deeply moved by their loyalty but was also worried about the trouble she might bring them
“I know what you’re thinking. The worst Leon can do is mess with my company or use my dad to pressure me.” Jeremiah had already thought everything through before coming back. “I’m prepared. Don’t worry.”
“Thank you.” She knew there was no point arguing.
He glanced at her. “If Susie heard that, you wouldn’t escape a beating.”
Victoria’s expression softened slightly.
Since she couldn’t talk him out of it, she decided not to push further. As long as she didn’t get entangled in any
by conflict of interest with Jeremiah, Leon probably wouldn’t go too
About thirty minutes later, Jeremiah dropped Victoria off at her apartment complex. His brows furrowed slightly as he took in the sight of the high–rise “You live here?”
“Yeah” Victoria nodded
“Why aren’t you staying at one of Susie’s places?” he asked.
As far as he remembered, she had never lived in such a small place before. “She owns plenty of properties”
“It’s fine here,” she replied without any further explanation.
Instead, she offered a reasonable excuse. “It’s close to Edwin’s school, so it’s convenient for drop–offs and pickups.”
Jeremiah opened his mouth but swallowed back whatever he was about to say.
She pointed toward the building. “I’m heading back.”
“Alright.” He waited until she entered the building before pulling out his phone to call Susle.
As expected, she cussed him out the moment she picked up. She was in a terrible mood as she had just fallen asleep. “Are you out of your mind? Why are you calling me at this hour
“I just want to find out what happened to Vicky,” Jeremiah said calmly,
Susie was speechless. After a few seconds of silence, she replied, “We’ll talk when I’m weake
With that, she hung up without hesitation.
Jeremiah wasn’t surprised. just as he was about to look for a place to stay nearby, his phone rang. Seeing the familiar number, his usually confident and deflant eyes flickered with asubtle change.
After about ten seconds, he finally slid his finger across the screen to answer. His tone carried a trace of impatience. “What do you want?–
A mottent later, Jeremiah furrowed his brows and drove off. Not far away, Lron watched everything unfold from his çar.
Having pieced things together from his earlier phone call and what he had just witnessed, Aaron made a pretty sold guess. “Did you call Mr. Colin just now?”
