Chapter 59
It was enjoyable when Aaron got a juicy piece of gossip. Thut petting caught up in a ticking time bomb like this? Malding it out unscathed would be a whole other challenge.
“I think that was probably just a simple hug between old friends. No need to overthink it,” Aaron said, trying to rase the tension so he could breathe a little easier.
Henry couldn’t help but think that Aaron should just stop talking, Aaron clearly didn’t notice the growing chill in Leon’s eyes.
“Besides, you and Victoria have been married for years and even have a kid together. Whatever feelings Jeremiah had muust be long gone by now.”
“Mr. Buck, are you thirsty? Henry Interjected seriously, leuing he’d be dragged into this mess.
“I’m not,” Aaron replied instinctively.
steering wheel with one hand, his palm slick with sweat. “I think you are.”
Henry gripped the st
“What’s wrong with your assistant? Aaron asked. When he noticed the tension beside him had eased slightly, he let out a small sigh of relief
“First, he wouldn’t let me out of the car, and now, he’s forcing me to drink water,” he continued
Leon turned to look at him. “I think you’re thirsty as well.”
““Aaron swallowed the rest of his words the moment he met Leon’s dark, dangerous gaze.
Where did he even get the ridiculous idea that Leon had been convinced by his argument?
“If you say I’m thirsty, then I’m thirsty,” Aaron muttered, his heart pounding. He grabbed the water bottle and sat back obediently
Leon’s gare darkened. He had almost forgotten about Jeremiah.
The car continued forward, following Jeremiah and Victoria until they arrived at a high–end restaurant. Watching the two talking and laughing as they walked inside together, Leon’s lips pressed into a cold line.
Aaron and Henry sat quietly in the car, neither daring to speak,
Luton glanced our the window. “Who owns this restaurant?”
Aaron was puzzled. How would be know? It was his first time here.
“A subsidiary of Buck Corporation invested in it,” Henry answered, relieved he had anticipated Leon’s question for once.
Lean turned to look at Aaron
Aaron was caught off guard. How did this suddenly become his problem?
“TU call the restaurant manager right now and have jeremiah kicked out,” Aaron blurted out.
He whipped out his phone in a flash, eager to prove his loyalty. “I’ll even blacklist him. None of Buck Corporation’s businesses will serve him again.“ Leon’s gaze didn’t waver.
Henry stepped in to interpret, saying, “Mr. Quigley isn’t that petty.”
“Then tell me straight. What do you want me to do?” Aaron could usually guess what Leon wanted. But in matters like this, he was no match for Henry.
“Tell the manager to set up their private room as if jeremiah is going to confess his love to Victoria. Midway through their meal, send in red roses and an engagement ring. Tell Victoria it’s all for her,” Lron said, his expression unreadable
Henry was momentarily stunned.
Aaron took a second to process before blaring out, “Are you helping your rival win her over?”
“It he likes her, F’ll help his make it clear to Victoria,” Leon said calmly.
Aaron was about to ask if he had lost his mind when it suddenly hit him. The understood Leon’s plan almost instantly.
He had heard about Victoria’s personality. If Jeremiah went ahead with a proposal while she and Leon weren’t officially divorced, Victoria would undoubtedly be disgusted.
On the surface, it would look like an expression of love. But in reality, such an act would show a lack of respect for Victoria, as if she were the type to entertain another man’s proposal while still married.
Aaron couldn’t help but think this was a ruthless move.
