Chapter 85: A Twist 

Wendy looked up, relief flooding her face. “Jason Are you alright? Is it over?” 

Jason nodded, his expression grim. “Yeah, Mom. It’s over… for now.” 

Wendy noticed the frown creasing her son’s brow. “What’s wrong? You don’t look relieved.” 

Jason ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily. “It doesn’t make sense, Mom. It was too easy.” 

‘Easy?” Wendy asked with a frown. 

“Something isn’t right,” Jason said, pacing the room. “The men we fought… they were amateurs. Poorly trained. It doesn’t add up.‘ 

Wendy’s brow furrowed in a frown. “What are you saying, Jason? That we have been played?” 

In Angel City, Daniel faces Matthias. Mathias had been tortured till he could barely breathe. 

“I know you are not the head of the dark hands, so there is no need for you to be this loyal. I just need answers. Why is my wife on the list?” Daniel asked. 

“It is not about her. It is about her father. If we get her, we find her father,” Mathias answered. 

“How will you, her father?” Daniel asked. He had never heard Anya talk about her father before. What was going on? 

“All we know is that he was unconscious and had to be hooked up to an experimental machine. So, we built ours to hook up his wife. But we still haven’t made any progress after so long,” 

Chapter 85 & Twest 

Mathias said. 

Daniel frowned. His wife? Anya’s mother? But she is dead, right? 

Daniel soon returned to the capital and rushed back to Anya’s hospital. 

The double doors stood open in greeting, allowing Daniel a view of a white hospital room. His mother’s small silhouette was clearly visible within, bent protectively over Anya’s comatose frame as she dabbed her brow gently with a damp towel. 

He knew his mother definitely liked Anya more than she had Helen. He could not fathom the idea that he may love her more than his late wife 

With her, it was different. It was not warm companionship but hot desire. He was sure he was 

in love. 

As he walked into her room, all that existed in Daniel’s universe was the woman he loved, 

hovering between life and oblivion, her delicate features slack and pale. 

She resembled the dead. This thought scared Daniel stiff, 

Daniel kept his hurried pace until he was beside the bed. 

His mother looked up from bed and stared at him. 

“We were attacked, but she is fine,” Wendy said. 

She could tell Daniel was in pain. She was not sure how to help him. 

“Still no improvement? Daniel asked. 

“None,” his mother answered. 

Wendy saw the pain on Daniel’s face and quickly explained 

“But it has only been a few days; she will wake up soon,” Wendy comforted him. “The doctor says talking to her will help.” 

Very gently, Daniel took Anya’s limp hand in his own, brought the back of her slender fingers to his lips, and pressed a trembling kiss against her soft skin. 

“Anya,” he rasped, his voice cracking with emotion he stubbornly refused to rein in. “It’s me; I just came back from Angelo City. We don’t know who was pulling all the strings. You will wake up, right?” 

His eyes had turned red, and his hand was beginning to tremble. What if she did not wake up? 

She looked so still, reminding him of the day he buried Helen. This is how the dead looked. Pale and still. Fear filled him. 

“Come no, why isn’t she waking?” He choked out through gritted teeth. 

Wendy found his state abnormal. 

“It’s alright, Just.” She started to say 

“Come on, baby, open your eyes.” 

Chapter 85 A Twat 

His pleas evolved into panic and a slight rage. What wasn’t she waking? 

He wanted to break something. He wanted to scream, but he felt weak inside. 

He had never felt this helpless before. 

As a feeling of tiredness washed over him, he simply leaned forward. And he laid his head on the edge of the bed, forehead pressed against the back of her hand, and surrendered to the pain. 

He could feel her blood pumping through her veins, and that calmed him. 

Wendy’s hand found his shoulder; she patted him on his shoulder to calm him. His reaction. 

worried her. 

“Daniel,” Wendy said with a sigh. 

She had to admit that when Anya had first come, she had thought that her son and the girl were in some sort of contract marriage. 

But seeing him this way really hurt her. Her son was not one to be this weak. 

“After everything you’ve done to avenge her, if you fall now, how will you be able to keep protecting her? You have made more enemies in these past few days than you have in a year.” 

“I won’t fall,” Daniel answered. He had caught himself. His head was clear now. Even though she was still, he could tell she was alive from the blood pulsing in her veins. It calmed him. 

“I heard you found the head of the Dark Hands,” Wendy said. She recalled Michael saying something about this. 

“Yes,” he answered. 

“Who is it?” she asked. 

“The president,” he answered. 

“President? President of what?” she asked with a frown. 

“President of the country,” he said, and she stilled, going quiet. 

“Are you thinking I should stop now?” he asked her. 

“Why should you? Your wife is already in this state; we are already past a truce. There is no stopping now,” she said darkly. 

“I have no intention of stopping. But things have become more complicated,” Daniel said. 

“How?” Wendy asked. 

“Her father,” he answered, and his mother frowned. 

“They said they were trying to find her father,” Daniel said. 

“Her father? Is he still alive??” Wendy asked. 

“Not only her father, Jerry is looking into the location of the machine now,” he said. 

Wendy wanted to ask more about it, but she soon gave up. This was not the the

He answered with the only admission he could make, letting the painful truth spill outin small voice. 

“I don’t know.” 

He dare not think about what could possibly happen if she did not waise up. 

The next day passed in a blur. Daniel as he spent every waking moment at Anya’s bee the hospital as much as he could. 

She remained unmoving, lost in the depths of her coma, while machines beeped monitoring her vital signs. It was sometimes the only sound in the room. 

A sense of helplessness threatened to overwhelm Daniel as he watched her lying there, s fragile and still every hour. 

Most of his work was brought to him at the hospital, files and documents stacione up of the small table beside Anya’s bed. 

What he couldn’t handle was passed along to his father, Michael, to oversee in his steat 

Daniel’s entire world had narrowed to this sterile room and the unconscious woman who meant everything to him. 

The day passed very quickly. Daniel was soon called in for a meeting he could not avoid. So he 

But the moment he left, her eyes fluttered. 

Anya slowly rose from the depths of unconsciousness, her mind and memories coming back in fragmented pieces. 

The first thing she became aware of was the harsh fluorescent light overhead. The lighting assaulted her closed eyelids. She flinched instinctively at the sting of brightness. 

Next came the steady beeping somewhere close by, an constant electronic rhythm stabbing at her confused senses. It made her already throbbing head, pounding in to the rhythm of the never–ending beeping sound. 

Forcing her eyelids to crack open just slightly, Anya was immediately slammed by a lot of unfamiliar sights and smells. She could smell a lot of disinfectant. 

The very white walls and ceiling tiles blurred together as her eyes opened.
