Chapter 21
“Are you deaf? Why are you not doing it?” Justin asked with a frown. Selena had never disobeyed him before.
“Why should I do it? If anyone owes her, it’s you!” Selena roared. She could no longer endure it after days of torment.
The news that Norah was still alive was the last straw. She couldn’t believe that everything she had done still meant nothing compared to Norah.
She glared at Justin with hatred.
“Is Norah really that important to you? Even after she abandoned you again and again? What about me? What am I to you? I’ve loved you for so many years, Justin! You liked me, too, didn’t you? Otherwise, why would you agree to marry me? Am I wrong?
“Norah is dead! She didn’t want you anymore! Can’t you look at me just once?” she screamed.
However, her words only fueled Justin’s rage. He grabbed Selena by the throat and slammed her onto the table, his eyes wild with fury. “I never liked you, not even a little! Selena, you faked an accident to force me into marrying you!
“And Norah is not dead! She didn’t abandon me. She will come back to me! I will marry her! We will grow old together! Who do you think you are compared to Norah? You’re nothing more than a toy to me!”
True sorrow came from a broken heart.
Tears welled up in Selena’s eyes. She chuckled softly before bursting into a fit of manic laughter, her eyes filled with mockery and hatred. “You’re the one who couldn’t keep Norah! You humiliated her with money again and again! Everything that happened was because of you, Justin!
“So what if she saved you? She stopped loving you a long time ago! You’re the only one who can’t move on! Justin, you deserve this! You and Norah will never be together. You’ll both die miserable deaths!”
The hatred in her eyes sent a chill down Justin’s spine.
Even as he tightened his grip, nearly strangling her to death, she never begged for mercy. The way she kept laughing and cursing him felt like a bottomless pit of darkness pulling him in.
Justin felt a flicker of panic. “Shut up! Shut up! Norah and I will be together! We will be happy! We will never be apart again!”
With that, he tightened his grip.
Selena slowly closed her eyes, showing no more signs of struggle. Just like that, she was dead.
Justin finally loosened his grip, only now realizing what he had done. He couldn’t believe Selena had died so easily.
Staring at the lifeless Selena before him, he felt momentarily dazed, as if she might suddenly open her eyes again.
Justin stood there for a long time.
Selena’s once–soft body gradually stiffened, turning cold. There was no coming back.
Taking a deep breath, Justin pulled himself out of the scene. An overwhelming exhaustion crept over him.
A knock sounded at the door.
Jeremy walked in, his gaze falling on Selena’s motionless body. He didn’t seem particularly surprised.
“Mr. Johnson, the Lynch family is hosting a banquet in two days. Will you be attending? I heard they’re officially announcing Ms. Serpentine’s engagement to Mr. Lynch.”
Justin pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I’m going,” he replied in a low voice. “Not just that, but I’ll bring a generous gift, too. I need to pay the Lynch family a proper visit… How dare they try to take her from me?
“And this thing… Dispose of it.”
He gestured carelessly at Selena’s body.
Jeremy nodded in understanding. “One more thing, Mr. Johnson. We uncovered something unusual about the Lynch family’s youngest son.”
Justin’s eyes flicked open.
“Mr. Lynch did return from abroad, and that much is true. But their family’s business ventures seem far greater than we thought. If Ms. Serpentine marries into their family, I’m afraid…”
Jeremy briefly summarized their findings.
The more Justin listened, the more his heart pounded with unease.
The Lynch family wasn’t sincere about Norah at all. If she married into that family, they would exploit her until nothing remained.
Fury flashing in his eyes, Justin clenched his fists.
