Chapter 10
There were only ten minutes left before the wedding began.
Justin lowered his phone, his expression darkening. He had called Norah countless times, but every attempt went straight to voicemail.
What was she up to now? Was she deliberately causing trouble because she felt she hadn’t gotten enough from the divorce?
Justin’s grip on his phone tightened as his eyes burned with anger.
But beside him, Selena could see something else hidden beneath that rage–worry.
“Wait for me, Selena. I’ll get Norah and bring her back to be your bridesmaid.”
Just as she expected, Justin mentioned Norah with a blank expression.
How ridiculous. Even now, he still couldn’t let go of Norah.
Selena tightened her grip on Justin’s arm, stopping him. “It’s okay, Justin. She doesn’t have to come if she doesn’t want to. We can’t let Norah ruin such a perfect wedding day, right?” she persuaded him.
She had waited too many years for this moment. There was no way she would let Norah ruin it at the last second.
While a glint of malice flashed in her eyes, Justin’s expression darkened. He didn’t say anything to refute Selena.
Ten minutes remained. If Norah were to send him a text or call him now… If she told him she couldn’t let go and begged him not to marry Selena…
Justin thought about it. But as each second passed, the moment he hoped for never came.
Finally, the wedding music began.
Disappointment flickered in his eyes as he set his phone down, tossing it aside.
His face was now cold and unreadable. “Let’s go, Selena. After today, you will officially be Mrs. Johnson.”
He took her hand. The moment he turned away, the screen of the phone he had left on the table lit up as a new message appeared.
Selena’s expression shifted briefly before she smiled again. “I’ll be right there, Justin. Wait for me.”
“Alright.” Justin nodded and walked into the wedding hall alone.
As Selena picked up Justin’s phone, she saw that the message was from Jeremy Graham, the butler.
“Mr. Johnson, something happened to Ms. Serpentine!”
Seeing this, Selena thought to herself, “Norah, are you really still trying to use tricks to win Justin back even now? You’re like a leech. But it won’t work. He belongs to me.”
She deleted Jeremy’s message.
The next moment, her phone began to ring. It was a call from Jeremy.
She answered calmly, unbothered, “Hello, Jeremy.”
“Ms. Jones! Is Mr. Johnson with you? Something has happened to Ms. Serpentine!”
“Our wedding ceremony is about to begin. Don’t disturb him over something so trivial.”
With that, Selena hung up the phone.
The emcee’s speech had reached its climax–it was time for Selena to make her entrance.
With a satisfied smile, she pushed open the hall doors and stepped onto the red carpet under the dazzling lights, walking toward the man she had loved for years.
The wedding proceeded smoothly. Justin and Selena exchanged vows, slipped rings onto each other’s fingers, and sealed it with a kiss under the gaze of the guests, who showered them with blessings.
Yet, the unease in Justin’s heart refused to fade. Instead, it grew stronger.
Instinctively, he reached into his pocket for his phone, wanting to see if Norah had replied. Only then did he remember that he had left it backstage.
“Justin, it’s time for the toast. A lot of people came today,” Selena mentioned with a radiant smile. She was like a beautiful butterfly, drawing admiration from the guests, who called Justin and Selena a perfect match.
But her beauty, her face, her personality -everything about her–was not what Justin loved. Even lovemaking with her had never been genuine. However, Selena had sacrificed too much for him.
Norah had abandoned him back then. He wouldn’t do the same and become another heartless person.
Suppressing the turmoil within him, Justin responded hoarsely and accompanied Selena to toast the guests.
Laughter and clinking glasses filled the air, and the wedding banquet lasted until nightfall. By then, Selena was so drunk that she collapsed into his arms.
“Justin, I’m finally yours… Do you know how long I’ve waited for this day? You’ve always looked at Norah but never at me. But now, I finally have you. Justin, I’m so happy.”
Inside the car, Selena’s hands wandered as she began tugging at Justin’s clothes.
Justin’s gaze softened with a trace of helpless indulgence at her drunken words. But the moment passed, and his thoughts turned back to Norah.
Once he retrieved his phone, he saw that Norah hadn’t replied. Her indifference cut through him like a knife.
Norah definitely knew that if she had just asked him to stay, he would have abandoned everything for her. Yet, she was cruel enough to refuse to even stand with him at the altat.
If that was her choice, he would never be softhearted because of her again from this moment on.
The car arrived at his and Selena’s new home. As Justin carried his drunken bride out of the car, he saw Jeremy rushing toward him in a panic.
“Bad news, Mr. Johnson!”
