Chapter 14
The doctor concluded, “You might need to spend more time with Ms. York, Mr. Fray. Take her to places that you used to go. That might help jog her memories of you.”
“You worthless fool! How dare you claim to be the best neurosurgeon in the country? I’ll destroy your reputation if Seraphine doesn’t remember me!” Jordan flung the doctor aside and stormed off.
Before he could carry out his plan, Adam found him at the villa he shared with Jessica. He was holding her while drinking, and he shot to his feet in fright when he saw Adam. He stammered, “D–Dad, what are you-”
Adam slapped him, silencing him altogether. “I wondered why Seraphine had suddenly resigned to work for Stone Corporation–you’ve gotten together with someone else behind her back! Are you trying to kill me, you imbecile? Do you know how important Seraphine is to the company?”
He trembled with rage.
Jordan said weakly, “You can’t blame me for this, Dad. What can I do when Seraphine thinks Damien is me?”
“I know all about that. I also know you’re the one who pushed her into the ocean!” Adam snarled.
Jordan jolted.
Adam continued, “This is your final warning–you’d better pray William doesn’t find out about this. He’ll pull out his investment if he does, and when that happens, don’t blame me for being ruthless. Your brother is perfectly capable of replacing you!”
“What did you just say, Dad?” Jordan couldn’t believe his ears.
Adam didn’t waste his breath on him. He gave Jessica a cold look before leaving.
Once he was gone, Jessica hurried forward with a frown. “What did your father mean by that, Jordan? He was just joking, right?”
Jordan fell onto the couch, looking dazed. He didn’t hear a word she said. He didn’t expect everything to go haywire without Seraphine in his life. His heart was in a mess, as was his mind.
That night, I looked silently at the dozen or so unanswered calls on my phone. Jordan texted me incessantly, so I read his messages. “Sera, can you please answer my calls? I have something very important to tell you.”
There were more, but I stopped there. I turned off my phone and went to bed.
A few days later, I received an email from a TV program’s crew saying that they wanted to interview me. They also told me there would be a huge surprise for me. I recognized the program and agreed to go for it.
Damien looked grim upon learning about this. On the day of the recording, he suddenly held my hand and pulled me into his arms. He held me tightly, his voice trembling slightly as he said, ” Break a leg.”
I chuckled. “I will.”
I saw a large screen at the set, and a lot of equipment had been set up. It looked like the show was going to be streamed live.
The host interviewed me and asked about my first love. I lapsed into silence at that.
At that moment, photos and videos of Jordan and me started playing on the screen. I didn’t react much when I saw them.
“Do you remember anything now, Sera? This is where I proposed to you -the whole of Jeriton City witnessed it. I don’t blame you for losing your memories of me, nor do I blame you for mistaking someone else for me. I love you deeply, and you’re the only one who has my heart,” Jordan said lovingly, his eyes reddening.
“During college, I brought you umbrellas when it rained. I brought you food and took you out to have fun. When we graduated, you told me we would be together forever. Don’t you remember any of this?”
The live stream’s chat was flooded with comments on how deeply Jordan loved me. Mom and Dad were also on set, watching from a corner.
“I have the whole of Jeriton City to act as my witness, Sera. I’m your boyfriend–please believe me.” Jordan stepped forward and held my hand.
I clutched my head. “I… I think I remember now…”
