Chapter 8
I looked at jordan indifferently, as if he was still nothing more than a stranger to me. I said, “That’s enough, Mr. Fray. Please stop disturbing me. I only have one boyfriend, and that’s Damien. I love him very much, and I don’t want anyone other than him.”
Jordan glared at me furiously, his eyes bloodshot with rage. He raised a hand to hit me but restrained himself because Mom and Dad were around. He lowered his hand before giving Damien a deadly glare. Then, he turned and got into the car, driving toward the hospital.
Once he was gone, I turned to Damien and felt his neck. I asked in concern, “That psycho didn’t hurt you, did he?”
The cool sensation of my fingers took Damien aback. His eyes gleamed but stilled after a second. “I have work to do. I should get going,”
After that, he bid Mom and Dad goodbye before hurrying off. He moved so quickly that he disappeared in a matter of seconds.
I couldn’t help chuckling as I watched him flee. Had his ears turned red earlier?
Three days passed. I got sick of lazing around at home, so I dressed up and grabbed my bag and résumé. Then, I headed to Stone Corporation.
The HR manager looked through my résumé before running to Damien. She said excitedly, “Mr. Stone, the architect we’ve always wanted to hire, Seraphine York, came knocking on our door. Do we want to offer her a higher salary and hire her?”
“Where is she?” Damien shot to his feet.
“The lobby.” The HR manager smiled
Damien ran off almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth. She ran after him and found him standing at the door, not daring to enter. It was a stark contrast to his usual cold demeanor.
He said, “Pay her whatever salary she demands. Make sure we get her.”
The HR manager nodded.
A few minutes later, she ran to Damien’s office to take credit for her work. “We got her, Mr. Stone! She didn’t even ask for that high a salary! I bet the recruitment ads I took out worked- look at how we managed to hire someone like her!”
He gave her a cool look and said, “She’s here because of me.”
The HR manager was baffled
After joining Stone Corporation, I worked hard and helped the company resolve a few major issues. I even went abroad with Damien to attend a dinner party hosted by an affluent foreigner.
I saw Jordan there shortly after arriving. He wore a brown suit, and a tall, beautiful woman stood beside him. The people around him complimented his taste in women.
She was a familiar face–Jessica.
I stood on the grass and watched as Jordan tapped his wine glass while keeping an arm around Jessica. He stood among a crowd and chatted confidently, looking proud.
Perhaps sensing my gaze on him, he turned in my direction. When he saw me, his expression turned flustered, and he released Jessica’s waist. He left her behind as he hurried to me.
I retracted my gaze and held my wine glass to my lips, my face not betraying a hint of emotion. I sipped my wine. It tasted slightly bitter.
“What are you doing here, Sera? I don’t remember seeing your name on the list of guests.” Jordan turned back to look at Jessica as he spoke to me. He grew more anxious when he saw the shift in her expression.
I turned away, ignoring him.
He hurriedly explained, “I only brought Jessica here because I couldn’t find you. Don’t get us wrong”
Jessica approached as he spoke. She said, “Don’t misunderstand my relationship with Jordan, Seraphine. We’re just friends.”
She was gentle and considerate, and she even helped Jordan unravel the misunderstanding, He looked at her, his gaze filled with admiration.
